Yukino Miyazawa is what you can call in one simple word as "perfect". She is constantly a straight 'A' student, popular at school,beautiful and friendly. But all of this is just a facade, she hides behind a mask that she had made for herself since gradeschool. She was a success all her school life, until she stepped into Highschool there she met and came to hate the pesonage of Souichiro Arima and individual who is "more perfect" than her. Souichiro became the 1st Year Representative instead of her Arima also manages to top the exams and since then she has decided to compete against Arima. Unlike Arima who is naturally intelligent she has to really work hard just to get high grades.
Yukino acts friendly towards Arima outside but is a total outrage inside, she also discovers that Arima likes her and she intended to use it to her own advantage, but her true personality was revealed to Arima when he came to her house, Yukino dressed up in sweat pants and wearing huge glasses and with her hair tied at the back of her head, looking totally sloppy. Arima used this secret to gain attention from her. Making her do all of the activity proposals and projects, due to the heavy load she snaps and confronts Arima. They settled everything and became friends, then became close pals and eventually became lovers. With the beginning of her relationship with Arima, Yukino also begins to slip away the mask of her "perfection" and shows her true colors. Lots of problems happened in their relationship to their parents being called, Yukino being shunned away by her classmates, being constantly attacked by an admirer of Arima. But Yukino deals with all the problems herself and refused a helping hand from Arima.

Scarred for life, is Souichiro Arima. With a past that made him the most pained of all the characters in Kare Kano. Souichiro Arima is part of a clan which have spawned doctors since the Edo Period. His father is the blacksheep of the family, his father and mother left him, and so his parents now are in truth his uncle and aunt. Souichiro is out to prove himself as not like his father.
