Part Four
Mulder knocked on the door and flashed his badge. He had the Lone Gunmen make him one before he left for New Mexico and he had found it very useful
Rosemary Wilkes? he asked the woman who answered the door, remembering the name of the one who had contacted the police.
Yeah, thats me
Id like to ask you a few questions about the Van De Kamps
You come to make fun of me like those other officers? I dont care what anybody says, I know what I saw. No human coulda done that. She was about to slam the door in Mulders face, but he held it open.
What did you see? Mrs Wilkes sighed and let Mulder in. This man didnt have the same sarcasm in his voice that the other officers had.  She gestured for him to have a seat, and she did the same.
I went over there because I was out of milk, and I was gonna borrow some. The door was open, and Jenny Mrs Van De Kamp was lying on the floor. But her head was a few feet away from her body! Then I saw him. The monster. Mr Van De Kamp shot at him, but nothing happened. I ran before I could see anything else.
Did any of the other officers or agents ask you what the monster looked like?
No, Mrs Wilkes laughed they all thought I was hallucinating or crazy or something
What did he look like?
He looked like a man. I dunno, I only saw the back of him
Do you remember his hair colour, his height?
He was kinda tall and he had short dark brown hair.
Did you notice any distinguishing features?
Mrs Wilkes paused There was something I thought was a bit weird. I noticed this lump on the back of his neck
Can you describe it?
It was triangular. Um, it sorta looked like he had something extra on his spine or something. It sounded like this monster might be a super soldier. But why would a super soldier attack this couple?
Can you think of anything that this monster might want with the Van De Kamps or their son?
Maybe it had something to do with Williams abilities. A few days after they adopted him, William started moving things with his mind, may-
Mulder interrupted Their sons name is William? And hes adopted?
Yeah. Why? Does that mean something?
Mulder stood up to leave Thank you for your time, youve been very helpful And he left before Mrs Wilkes could ask him anything else. He had to tell Scully.

While Mulder was walking back to his car, he took out his cell phone and began dialling Scullys number, but before he could punch in the last button, a voice interrupted him.
Fox Mulder, stop there! N.Y.P.D., Im armed!  This police officer must have come by to wrap up his investigation and spotted him. Ever since Mulder had escaped his death sentence, the military had told all police departments that he was wanted for civil crimes that they had staged, such as the murder of Knowle Rhorer. Mulder bolted towards his car and sped off, dropping his phone on the passenger seat. The officer shot at Mulders tyres, puncturing them. The car slowed down and Mulder got out and ran for it, dodging bullets. He ducked into the Wilkes shed and locked the door. The officer pounded on it and then began shooting. A bullet grazed Mulders arm and he knew he had to get out of there fast. There was a back door to the shed that the officer hadnt noticed. Mulder opened it and ran, coming to a nearby forest. The officer noticed Mulder and followed, but Mulder was able to lose him amongst the trees and bushes. Finally, the officer gave up and went to Mulders car, calling for a team to come immediately to examine it. Mulder very carefully followed the officer and took his car, speeding off before the officer could react.
