Thomas was but eight years of age when his when his parents took possession of the old house near Springfield, Clark, County, Ohio. His parents, William and Isabella lived with him and died under his care. Then about 1858 Thomas B. Gowdy moved From Ohio to near Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois, and there he resided for many years. In 1884 in order to be near his two sons, Joseph K. and Alexander K., he sold out and moved to Pawnee City, Nebraska. Mr. Gowdy was a man of Spare build about five feet ten inches in height, with fair complexion, blue eyes and light hair. His disposition was gentle; he was kind in his family and good to the poor. He was in sympathy with the suffering and devoted to his church. His wife was rather slender in early life had. brown hair and eyes and was a favorite wherever she went.
