The 1850 Census taken in August lists William Henderson's occupation as merchant and the value of his property
at $2500. The Story of South Henderson In 1876 states "William D Henderson is yet the genial elder in the
Second United Presbyterian Church Monmouth". From the History of Henderson County published by H. H. Hill
and Company in 1882 on page 383 we find that William D Henderson and his wife Martha, having come from Ohio,
were 2 of the original 59 organizers of the South Henderson United Presbyterian church which was organized on
the 4th day of July, in 1835. The history further states on page 384 that in 1882 Col. W. D. Henderson was living
in Red Oak Iowa.
Martha died on September 12 1850 leaving William then 37 with 6 children to raise.
