Right out of High school Barbara fell in love with "the most wonderful and handsome athletic man in the world." They both loved swimming and tennis. Unfortunately, Talented and charming as he was the marriage was doomed to failure. In 1935 Barbara married Dale D. Smith. In 1937 they moved to Riverton where in 1942 she went to work for the local newspaper. She loved her work at the newspaper where she "wore many hats" she wrote a column for many years and won the Wyoming Presswomens award in 1968 for her writing. Hard times another divorce, and the tragic death of her oldest son, Bobby, did not get Barbara down. She continued to live her life to the fullest, square dancing, water-skiing and helping others. She worked full time till age 75 when she took semi-retirement. She continued to work part time at the paper 3 days a week up to the day she died six weeks short of her 84th birthday. At age 58 she suffered from 4 collapsed disks in her spine but in spite of the pain continued to water-ski until she was 80 years old. In 1981 she fell in love with hot air balloons but it wasn't untill in her late 70's she went on her first balloon ride. Having saved and invested her earnings diligently she was, in her last years, able to give generously to Central Wyoming College and special needs in the community. She loved to give anonymously, many students had help with fees or books, and others in the community received help with none of them ever knowing their benefactor.

She married (2) DALE D SMITH 10 Nov, 1935 in Casper, Natrona, WY, son of CLYDE SMITH and EDITH TALKINGTON.
