Located at Air Force Plant 4 in Fort Worth TX, AFEWES is operated
and maintained by Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems for
the Electronic Warfare Directorate located
at Edwards Air Force Base, California. AFEWES provides a hardware-in-the-loop
simulation capability designed to evaluate electronic combat (EC)
systems performance against terminal threat systems. It provides
a high density signal environment in a secure facility to test ECM
techniques during DT&E/OT&E using manned threat simulators.
AFEWES has 27 closed-loop, surface-to-air missile simulations, a
reconfigurable airborne interceptor simulation, an infrared laboratory
to evaluate infrared countermeasures equipment, and an open-loop
Multiple Emitter Generator to evaluate radar receivers and/or power
managed ECM systems. AFEWES can test systems, sub-systems, and brassboards
during different phases of system development to reduce flight test
requirements. It can measure effectiveness in terms of tracking
error, miss distance, probability of kill, and probability of survival.
AFEWES can generate airborne interceptor, surface-to-air missile,
ground control interceptor/acquisition radars, infrared radars,
and anti-aircraft artillery threats. AFEWES can operate in open
loop and closed loop modes. |
