How To Build a Computer Lab

Security Devices
No Lab Should be Without Security Devices.

Security devices that can physically secure monitors and CPU s can be installed for about $50 per machine.  A good investment for an open or un-staffed lab.

Other Considerations for Setting up a Lab

Electrical Requirements and Air Quality
You have to know how many outlets and where they will be located.  You have to decide where you want the cords, preferably not laid out across the floor.  Air quality, such as, humidity controlled affect the performance of the machines.  Computers generate heat so ventilation is important too.

Physical Considerations

Should school computer labs be phased out?  Should computers be in the classroom or the library?  Examine the relationship between the location of computers and frequency of  usage.
