How has the process of recording the new album been different to recording This Is Really Neat?
S: We havent started recording the new record yet we just did the demos, its a bit harder to write because we had 6 years to write the first one and 2 years or so to write this one. I cant really say I think the process will be a lot easier because we got more experience, I think it will be better and easier I think we know what we want a bit more.

Whats the weirdest or funniest thing thats happened on tour?
(Laughter from band)
K: Dont say hitting your head because thats getting boring now or pissing yourself
S: Ive never pissed myself
J: Youve pissed over people havent you
S: I pissed after that Monarch show, do you know that story?
K: Someone emailed it to me
J: He pissed on Nigel
S: I was getting to that I was building up, I was setting the scene then
J: Yeah that was the best thing thats happened
N: There was that time I broke Nigels leg as well
S: (continues pissing story) The best thing about it was he was on his bunk on the ferry at the time and he thought the boat was sinking

Any names for the new album yet?
S: Weve been knocking around a few things
K: Purple monkey dishwasher
S: Yep thats it
J: Thatll do
S: I dont want to say
J: We dont want people to find it in the record shops do we?
S: No
K: What about This Is Really Cool
S: This Is A Little Bit Neater, it will probably be something pretentious and deep
(Band Laugh)
M: You could just call it deep
S: Thats about as deep as pretentious as it will be
(Laughter)

If aliens came to earth and asked you if you wanted to see the universe but couldnt return to earth would you go?
S: Yeah
N: I suppose
J: Nah, Id miss my mum. Aliens dont do washing do they?
M: They might not have dishes
J: Thats true
S: Im sure you could set some of your own terms it would all be on the aliens
J: Yeah could I bring my mum as well.

How do you feel about the Napster thing?

S: I was happy with it the way it was with Napster, I thought Napster was a brilliant community thing its a shame it disappeared because I dont think other things really captured what that did. Its good for music because its like music that plays what ever you want and people are still going to buy records because nothing substitutes having a record in your hand, I believe that.

Who would you most like to punch in the face?

J: Each other I suppose
N: Nigel, break his leg, pee on him
J: We talk every week about people we dont like, Avril Lavigne Id like to punch her in the face but with something soft coz I dont want to hurt her.
(Laughter)
J: Like a bag of pillows or something
N: Bag of pennies
J: Bag of snooker balls, she ought to comb her hair a bit, get it out her face.

How do you come up with the songs? Do you have the music first or the lyrics first?

S: Music first I suppose, sometimes I have subjects that I want to write a song about but I would never write lyrics to a song, I tried it once but it ended up being complete bull shit. I tend to respond to the song then the lyrics as apposed to trying to write songs around words.

Would you prefer to get bigger when you release the new album or stay as you are?
S: Id like to get bigger thats the be all and end all
N: Just big enough so we sell enough records
M: Would you ever like to get really really big?
S: Not at this stage
N: Maybe one day if we paid our dues like 10 years along the line as long as we deserve it
M: If you wait 10 years down the road you might get more people liking you
S: The problem is that I wouldnt want to get to arenas certainly not on the first record or the second record, because by the time I play a arena Id like to have a bulk of material that has happened. That we deserved and a steady curve upwards its true that if you get to the top quickly you can come down just as quick.

Any new years resolutions?
J: Not really
S: Sell more records (laughs) no not really.
N: No
J: Nope
W: I never make any either
J: Good
Crackout Interview
This interview took place before the gig at the Tunbridge Wells Forum in a pub across the road which was quite frankly falling apart, after breaking a seat my sister, her friend and I started the interview.
