A year after the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan and I realized my true goal in life, I ran into the kid on the left, Mike Mehman, and had him teach me to play the guitar. We were auditioning for a school talent show and Mike Moore (obscured in the back) was playing the drums along to a recording of Wipeout. We said " hey, we know that tune, we should perform it together" and thus the MGM's were born. (Mike, Gale and Mike, get it?) The kid in the middle is my neighbor friend Kevin Kemp who could carry a tune and play the tamborine, so what the heck. The year is 1965 and we were'nt that bad for a bunch of 13 year olds. Note the matching Sears Silvertone guitars. The amp was built into the guitar case! How cool. |

In high school after a stint with a band called The Spyders, I was asked to replace a guy in The 6th Ride who had left town for college. From the left on are Jeff Franck, Dave Plaehn, Mike Strohbehn, Jim Henry, Ross Camarata and me. Later on Ross and I were recruited by some older guys to join a band called The Night Flight and we started playing in night clubs earning more money in a night than our classmates were from a week working at McDonald's. I"m playing my first Rickenbacker guitar there. |

It's 1969 and this is Magic Theater. In the back are Al Eacret, Randy Miller and myself. In the front are Mike Bancroft and Murray Romine. We were big with the beatnick crowd. I switched to a ' 56 Les Paul. |
