Dodheimsgard  Satanic Art
Moonfog , 1998
Lord Pale :
A short 5 song mini cd from the newly reformed Dodheimsgard . Not sounding much like their previous work however , with the exception of The Paramount Empire . This disc contains too musicals pieces Oneiroscope and Wrapped In Plastic both piano pieces that sound slightly disjointed and odd , that both open and close the proceedings . The main body of this disc is the exceptional Traces Of Reality which is at its core a fast blackmetal song with fuzz drenched guitars , but as it progresses keyboards , pianos , violins , slow heavy death metal breaks , deep deathmetal vocals , as well as anguished demented laughter soon entwine themselves throughout , making for an excellent and varied track . Symptom is a more straight forward blackmetal song than Traces Of Reality but essentially in the same vein with less variation and being a lot shorter . Leaving only The Paramount Empire which is an older song ( written a year before the others ) which is a fast paced blackmetal romp sometimes reminiscent of
Zyklon B with sickly snatting vocals . Not a bad little disc though a tad short .

Dodheimsgard  666 International
Moonfog , 1999
Lord Pale :
Not as blackmetal as Satanic Art anymore , Dodheimsgard have moved to a slightly more accessible format . The music is still quite odd , but no longer in the sick sounding way it was on Traces Of Reality . It still has all the heavy fuzz drenched guitars although for the main part a lot slower , and with a little of an industrialised tinge to them . The music ( although disjointed ) has a pervading beat to it and there is always something to nod the head too . The album has 66 tracks although 56 of them are dead time tracks . Like Satanic Art , 666 International contains some piano musicals , 3 in fact which I find quite unnecessary and an annoying detraction from the rest of the album . Some of the drumming blasts by at phenomenal speeds rivalling Hellhammer at his fastest , and the vocals now incorporate a new deep sounding clear ( yet aggressive ) voice that is prominent throughout the album . Those who were hoping that Dodheimsgard who pursue the style set out bye Satanic Art will be disappointed , those who were hoping that Satanic Art was merely a pre-taster of more progression to come will no doubt love this album . I fall somewhere in between .
