Possibly the most famous
example of the effects of structural resonance is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge
collapse. On November 7, 1940 at about 11:00 AM the bridge collapsed
due to structural resonance caused by wind induced vibrations. The
bridge had only been opened for traffic a few months before collapsing.
