Tacoma Narrows Bridge: Tacoma, Washington

Possibly the most famous example of the effects of structural resonance is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse.  On November 7, 1940 at about 11:00 AM the bridge collapsed due to structural resonance caused by wind induced vibrations.  The bridge had only been opened for traffic a few months before collapsing.

Here are a few pictures of the collapse that describe different phases of resonance.
