On some anime sites, they review cons, whic would seem sensible on an anime website, and i'm going to do an event review but rather than a con I feel like chattering on a bit about Reading! Yes it's been a while now but I just need to look at my wrist (where my bracelet still is) and the memories come back. So here's a bit on 3 days, in a tent with a lot of music and stuf... By the way, Reading is a UK rock festival which ran this year between 23rd and 26th August in a number of fields in Reading in the south of England.

I got there on the Friday. Late. Well comparatively late seeing as I was camping but me and me bro managed to get one of his mates to pitch our tent for us so it was all there when we got there at two-ish. The music started at midday and when we got there we spent about an hour trying to find my brother's mates and our tent to dump a lot of very heavy stuff. Eventually found it (miracle judging by the size of that campsite). Was also the only day I used the camp loo... too minging and nasty after that. Bleh. Anywhos got into the arena to meet my friend ready for the White Stripes who were good but I must admit I was only half watching. Then came Weezer, I left my mate for a bit and joined some others to watch Weezer, and I think Rivers Cuomo may have had his guitar with Sailor Moon on it but to be honest I'm just stabbing at random guesses as it was like miles away.

After Weezer I went off to the Electric Soft Parade who were excellent and unknown to me (as it was in the Evening Session Tent) it had begun to rain. So afterwards it was a leg-it to camp to sit and drink in a tent until 9ish. Brother's friends forgot to keep their shoes inside the tent and got them very wet. Ha ha. Then at 9-ish it was back to the arena, and the crush to get inside as everyone had legged it to drink at the tents. It dried off thankfully for the rest of the night, and we were late for Feeder. Cut it a bit fine and the Feeder tent was absolutely jam-packed. But they played a damn good set, Buck Rogers was soo cool to mosh to.

I managed to lose my bro's mates/ friends and ended up on me own to watch the Strokes from like a mile-back and 20 mins late too. But twas fun and funny when they ended the set with Julian Casablancas being given a birthday cake on stage. Afterwards it was back again to camp, where basically all we seemed to do was sit around a dying fire drinking and chatting and doing usual festie stuff. Decided to mix Curacao and Vodka as well, we had a bottle of each and a shot glass. Tasted nice but only if the curacao is added first. I think we managed to get through both bottles in about 10 minutes between the three of us in one shot glass..... Then while very out-of-it, went stumbling on a walk to try and find another friend with another of me bro's mates (my close friends who I go out with at home aren't into rock music) and ended up sitting outside some random person's tent at 3am watching two random blokes do a funky accoustic set. That night I went to bed with a mind spinning from too much drinks and malboro lights going to a drunken head.

Saturday...as a complete rock fan I really looked forwards to Saturday and my god were there some good acts. Tad annoyed I missed LTJ tho (meh!). Got up early, 7:45!!!! After bed at 3...got up with the dawn... and lived on a diet coke diet. I lasted with enough energy on adrenaline until well 3am the next morning. ^-^ Then at midday, off to the arena. One of the stages had become the punky concrete jungle stage for the day and a skate ramp had been put up in front of it. Weather was well nice, all sunny and it was so good watching the skating with Jesse James behind me (twas too full to get in!). First act I saw on the main stage were Vex Red who rocked, I'm off to see them at Brixton in a month actually. Then after them it was A (britrock!) who were good but the most fun about A was moshing to 'Nothing'. Otherwise I pretty much stood still and watched it. *sigh*. After A we got the delights of...The Hives! Oh my god, it starts out funny but it gets annoying so quickly when they basically make so-much of themselves before and after each song. Ok it is a good show but sometimes cringingly embarrassing (think David Brent embarrasing) when they start going 'Hey clap for us because we are the Hives. You guys look pretty good down there but then again so do we up here!' Ego....

Vex Red

Then it was time for the Cooper Temple Clause. Lots and lots and lots of music and pretty much nowt else was all I seemed to be doing, but then again it was a rock festival. I met up with some other friends again to see them and really really enjoyed it. Afterwards I met up with my parents to get some supplies (yes they came to the festie *sigh*) and was busy questionning to myself if Ash really were going to appear as it was a little bit unknown when one of them got hurt really bad in an accident in America. But they played! And I missed them. And apparently it was REALLY good, and everyone was like 'oh aren't they so great for playing despite the injury?'. So 'dammit' basically. *sigh* The heavens decided to open at that point, eerily at exactly the same time they had the previous night, so grabbing me orange poncho which I had stuffed in my bag I went to meet a mate of my brothers before Muse. Unfortunately the heavens decided to open in spectacular style and my bro's mate was forced to pick up a orange groundsheet covered in mud and grass for cover as we made our way into the mosh and found a load of people huddled under a huge sheet of tarpaulin. So we huddled in. It obstructed the view of the stage quite a bit which was annoying when Muse started up. Dunno if its just me but there was something fitting about watching Muse in the rain...Anywhos, the tarpaulin then began to move, and the huddle used their giant sheet of plastic to get closer to the stage. So view unobstructed despite a few tall and hairy blokes in front of me.

Muse were absolutely INCREDIBLE, seriously were good. And after the rain stopped you could just see the steam rise from all the hot moshing bodies and create a massive cloud in front of the stage. Really bizarre. Muse were followed an hour of so later by the Foos. I lost all my mates again so waited alone and got into a chat with a cool gothy girl. Around 10ish the Foo Fighters began. I'd seen them before but this one was so damn good, they really rocked Reading. Managed to squish further into the mosh/nearer the stage and found myself a good position surrounded by non-violent girls and a clear view. During the gig i'd have to say Breakout stood out and Everlong i really enjoyed. And of course My Hero. ^_^ Dave also decided he would jump down and lick/kiss the camera, which was pretty damn funny as all we got to see for a few minutes on the big Reading screens was Dave Grohl's face very up close. We got a funky firework display when they'd finished their hour and a half set then back to camp for drinking/ smoking/ partying etc.
