In 1960, the Glide Community Club started the Glide First Citizen
Celebration. It was an opportunity to recognized the deeds of
outstanding citizens. To give the community a chance to say thank
you to those very special people who give their time and talents freely
to the community. Over the years a lot of very noteworthy
individuals have been recognized.

To make sure deserving individuals are identified, the entire community
is is asked to submit the names of outstanding individuals to the First
Citizen Committee. One of the traits of these civic minded
individuals is that they are often not in the limelight, but work behind
the scenes. It is easy for their endeavors to go unnoticed.
That is why it is so important for the community to nominate individuals
for this award. Neighbors, pastors, friends or co-workers are the
ones who see what these people do. That is why the First Citizen
Committee asks for the community to submit names for consideration.
The nomination form can be found on this web site. It includes
complete instructions regarding what information is needed, along with
how and when to submit it.

2010 nominations are now open
Each year a committee of former First Citizens reviews all of the
candidates and selects the new recipients. They have the
unenviable task of selecting the best of the best. Every candidate
nominated comes with an outstanding recommendation. Each and every
candidate has done numerous outstanding things for this community and
deserves public recognition. The selection committee is composed of
First Citizens themselves, so they know what it means to give selflessly
to the community.
