For some reason I like moving things being blurry, or at least the background blurry. Problem is nobody seems to like them blurry. I guess I haven't quite got the right sort of blurry yet.

So I thought I better start getting some more experience with blur. My first attempts were with MTB's, since I like the things, and the adventure that often comes with them. I noticed in a copy of Australian Cyclist that a 24 Hour MTB race was being held in Canberra, so I chucked a few of rolls of film in the bag and headed down.

Blur and MTB go together well for me, since most of my riding has been on a rigid suspension bike, and that spells blurry vision, especially on a good fast downhill. So my images of other bikes around me are blurry ones....

Anyway, the people carrying out the not inconsiderable task of running a 24 hour race with about 600 riders competing were happy for me to trundle around for a lap and take a few pics.

The riders competed in teams of 1 to 6 riders, with competitors taking turns to ride laps, rest or sleep. A number of hardy solo riders went the distance, ie rode the full 24 hours! You can read all about it here.

I tried to get the odd clear pic, but mainly tried blur without flash, and flash with a low shutter speed to get a clear element and streaky element.

I came away from the weekend with a lot of respect for the guys and girls competing and a stack of blurry shots. There are a couple of clear ones, but if you don't think you would like to see blurry pics of bikes in the bush then don't proceed beyond this point.
