Becoming a Foster Family is a challenging and at the same time, wonderfully fulfilling opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of children in need of a stable home environment.

Children placed with a Foster Family live in the home 24 hours a day, going to school, playing, making new friends, and fully integrating into the family.   In some cases, children may remain in a foster home for years, truly becoming "one of the family".

The rewards and opportunity for them to learn and grow into a stable member of society are immeasurable.  And so much of their growth will depend on you and your willingness to provide the nurturing required for any child.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Families interested in becoming foster parents, or just interested in learning more about the Kidz Ark CPA program, should contact Kidz Ark CPA at the numbers provided on the HOME page.

An initial telephone screening will be done, and the family will be mailed an information package providing more information about becoming a Foster Care Provider, a checklist for certification, a memorandum of agreement and a Foster Family questionnaire.

After reviewing this material, if the family is interested in pursuing certification to become a Foster Family, an in-home interview and home study will be scheduled with the Placement Supervisor.

During the initial visit, questions will be answered and a cursory assessment will be made by the Placement Supervisor as to the suitability of the home and family to become certified.  The Placement Supervisor/Placement Worker will discuss the Kidz Ark CPA policies, training and orientation requirements and other tasks required to achieve certification.  If the assessment is favorable, the family will be asked to complete several documents to initiate the certification process.

  • Foster Family Application
  • Fingerprint Cards
  • Release of Information Waiver
  • Central Registry check forms
  • Request for three letters of reference

Once these documents are received and processed, and again, if the results of the review is favorable, the family will be scheduled for initial Core Training which will last
32 ???? hours.   The applicants must complete all Core Training to continue the certification process.

Following the Core Training, a Home, Health and Safety Inspection will be scheduled by the Placement Supervisor and a written Home Study Report will be done.   The Home Study will document all areas relevant to the placement of a child and final certification, such as:

  • Reasons for interest
  • Previous family care experience
  • Home health and safety
  • Employment
  • Roles/responsibilities
  • Financial status
  • Criminal histories
  • Relationships to extended family
  • Community and neighborhood involvement
  • Childrearing practices
  • Health of the family members
  • And many other areas.

Together, this information will help determine the final recommendation by Kidz Ark CPA on certifying the family.
