Regulations_7
22) Train or Vehicles Running Away. (255).
-A) Should any train, portion of a train, or vehicle, be running away the signalman must immediately place or maintain his signals at Danger, advise the signalman at the next box towards which the train, portion of train, or vehicle may be heading by giving the Train or Vehicles Running Away signal and place the block indicator for the section affected to Train on Line if not already in that position. The signalman must immediately exhibit the Danger signal to stop any train going towards the signalbox from which the signal was received and take any other measures that may be necessary such as turning the runaway train or vehicles onto another line or into a siding, as may be most expedient under the circumstances.
-B) Should the signalman be unable to take such protective measures he must pass on the Train or Vehicles Running Away signal to the next signalbox. He must also place detonators on the rail.
-C) Should the runaway train or vehicles stop in the section and assistance be required, the provisions of Regulation 14 must be observed.
If the train or vehicles are removed from the section other than under Regulation 14, the signalman must come to a clear understanding as to what has been done, the block indicators maintained at the Train on Line position, and when the next train requires to pass over the line affected the signalman in rear must advise the signalman in advance of the train which is ready to enter the section and give the Train Entering Section signal. When this signal has been acknowledged the signalman in rear must when handing the train staff or ticket to the driver inform him of what has occurred and instruct him to proceed cautiously. On the train passing the signalbox in advance, with tail lamp attached, the Train Out of Section signal must be given, and the signalman at the rear box must then also place the block indicator of his instrument in the normal position.
If, after the Train or Vehicles Running Away signal has been sent, the runaway train or vehicles are stopped and removed from the section at the end where the signal has been sent, the signalman in advance must be advised of the fact by speaking instrument, and both signalmen must thereupon place the block indicators to the normal position provided the section is not occupied by another train. A note of the circumstances must be recorded in the train register books in both signalboxes, and the following train, after being signalled and accepted in the usual way, must be stopped and instructed to travel cautiously through the section.
23) Speed of trains.
When exchanging train staffs or tickets by hand, drivers must be careful not to exceed a speed of 10 miles an hour.
24) Opening and Closing of Signalboxes Where Switches are provided.
TO SWITCH INTO OR OUT OF CIRCUIT A HANDLE OR LEVER MUST BE PLACED TO SWITCHED IN OR SWITCHED OUT POSITION.
a) Switching in (555).
(1) AFTER OPERATING THE SWITCH SEND TO EACH BOX ON EITHER SIDE 555 WHICH MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY REPETITION.
(2) INFORM SIGNALMAN ON EACH SIDE BY SPEAKING INSTRUMENT THE NAME OF THE BOX SWITCHED IN.
(3) OBTAIN FROM SIGNALMAN ON EACH SIDE THE MANE OF HIS BOX.
 NOTE: IN SOME INSTANCES, IT MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE SIGNALMAN ON EITHER SIDE AS THE BOX OR BOXES MAY BE CLOSED (NOT POSSIBLE ON GHLR).
(4) ASCERTAIN WHAT TRAINS, IF ANY, ARE IN SECTION.
IF LINE CLEAR OR TRAIN ON LINE IS SHOWING FOR AN UP OR DOWN TRAIN, THE BLOCK INDICATOR AFFECTED MUST BE PLACED IN THE LINE CLEAR OR TRAIN ON LINE POSITION, AS THE CASE MAY BE, SO THAT THE BLOCK INSTRUMENTS TO THE BOX IN THE REAR MAY SHOW THE SAME INDICATIONS AS THE BLOCK INSTRUMENTS FORM THE BOX IN ADVANCE.
IF A TRAIN ARRIVES AT THE SWITCHED-IN BOX, THE SIGNALMAN THERE MUST SEND TRAIN OUT OF SECTION TO THE BOX IN REAR, BUT IF THE TRAIN HAS PASSED, THE SIGNALMAN MUST, ON RECEIVING TRAIN OUT OF SECTION FROM THE BOX IN ADVANCE, SEND TRAIN OUT OF SECTION TO THE BOX IN REAR, AND PLACE THE BLOCK INDICATOR TO THE NORMAL POSITION.
IF THE BLOCK INSTRUMENTS ARE IN THE NORMAL POSITION THE SIGNALS MUST BE PLACED TO DANGER. IF LINE CLEAR OR TRAIN ON LINE IS SHOWING ON THE BLOCK INSTRUMENT, THE SIGNALS MUST FOR THE LINE AFFECTED MUST NOT BE PUT TO DANGER (EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES) UNTIL EITHER THE TRAIN SIGNALLED ON THE BLOCK INSTRUMENT HAS PASSED OR TRAIN OUT OF SECTION SIGNAL HAS BEEN RECEIVED.
b) Switching Out (755).
A BOX MUST NOT BE SWITCHED OUT BEFORE THE SPECIFIED TIME (EXCEPT UNDER ABNORMAL CONDITIONS OR BY INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE DIVISIONAL SUPERINTENDENT OR DISTRICT TRAFFIC MANAGER) AND THEN ONLY UNDER ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
(1) WHEN THE BLOCK INDICATORS ARE IN THE NORMAL POSITION;
OR
(2) WHEN THE BLOCK INDICATOR TO THE REAR IS IN THE LINE CLEAR POSITION, IN WHICH CASE IS LINE CLEAR? SIGNAL MUST HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE BOX IN ADVANCE BEFORE SWITCHING OUT;
OR
(3) WHEN THE BLOCK INDICATOR TO THE REAR IS IN THE TRAIN ON LINE POSITION, IN WHICH CASE IS LINE CLEAR? SIGNAL MUST HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE BOX IN ADVANCE, TRAIN ENTERING SECTION GIVEN BEFORE SWITCHING OUT AND THE BLOCK INDICATOR PLACED AT TRAIN ON LINE BY THE BOX IN ADVANCE;
OR
(4) WHEN THE BLOCK INDICATOR FROM THE BOX IN ADVANCE IS IN THE TRAIN ON LINE POSITION AND TRAIN OUT OF SECTION HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN TO THE SIGNALBOX IN REAR, SO THAT TRAIN ON LINE WILL, WHEN SWITCHING OUT, SHOW AT THE BOX IN REAR;
OR
(5) WHEN THE BLOCK INDICATOR FROM THE BOX IN ADVANCE IS IN THE TRAIN ON LINE POSITION, THE TRAIN WHICH IS ENTERING THE SECTION INN ADVANCE HAS PASSED THE CLEARING POINT AND IS CONTINUING ON ITS JOURNEY, AND BLOCKING BACK (24) HAS BEEN SENT TO THE BOX IN REAR AND ACKNOWLEDGED, AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES EXPLAINED TO THE SIGNALMAN IN ADVANCE AND REAR.
THE ABOVE HAVING BEEN COMPLIED TO WITH THE SIGNALMAN MUST THEN GIVE 755 TO THE SIGNALBOXES ON EITHER SIDE, WHICH MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY REPETITION.
WHEN THIS HAS BEEN DONE THE SWITCH MUST BE OPERATED IMMEDIATELY OR THE PEGS REPLACED IN THE OUTER ROWS. THE SIGNALMAN MUST SATISFY HIMSELF TAT THE BLOCK INDICATORS GO TO THE NORMAL POSITION AND MUST BE CAREFUL TO UNPEG ALL HIS BLOCK INSTRUMENTS AFFECTED BY THE SWITCH IN ORDER THAT CORRECT INDICATIONS MAY BE MADE WHEN SWITCHING IN.
BEFORE LEAVING THE BOX, THE SIGNALMAN MUST PLACE ALL THE NECESSARY SIGNALS IN THE ALL RIGHT POSITION, AND WHERE SPEAKING COMMUNICATION IS STILL AVAILABLE MUST ASCERTAIN FROM THE BOX ON EACH SIDE THAT EVERYTHING IS IN ORDER.
NOTE: NOTE: IN SOME INSTANCES, IT MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE SIGNALMAN ON EITHER SIDE AS THE BOX OR BOXES MAY BE CLOSED (NOT POSSIBLE ON GHLR).
