| 8) � Ballast Train, Freight Train, or Inspection Train Requiring to Stop in Section. (1�2�2). -A) When a ballast train has to stop in a section for Permanent Way purposes, the signalman must give the prescribed �Is Line Clear?� signal and the signalman in advance must, if the line be clear to the home, or outermost home signal if there is more than one provided, give permission for the train to approach his box in accordance with Regulation 5. When a ballast train, which has been signalled as a through ballast train, has to stop in a section for Permanent Way purposes, and comes to a stand at a signalbox to enable the guard to inform the signalman that his train is going to stop in the section in advance, the signalman must give the �Cancelling� signal, and when the signal has been acknowledged he must signal the train as a ballast train requiring to stop in the section. �DURING FOG OR FALLING SNOW A FREIGHT TRAIN CALLING AT AN INTERMEDIATE SIDING MAY BE ACCEPTED UNDER THE �WARNING ARRANGEMENT� (REGULATION 5), BUT IMMEDIATELY THE TRAIN HAS BEEN ACCEPTED, THE SIGNALMAN AT THE BOX IN ADVANCE, OR SOME OTHER COMPETENT PERSON, MUST PLACE THREE DETONATORS TEN YARDS (10 CM ON GHLR) APART OPPOSITE THE HOME SIGNAL APPLICABLE TO THE APPROACHING TRAIN. WHEN THE FOG-SIGNALMEN ARE ON DUTY THE SERVICES OF THE GROUND FOG-SIGNALMEN MUST BE UTILISED FOR THIS PURPOSE. THE DETONATORS MUST NOT BE REMOVED UNTIL THE SIGNALMAN IS IN A POSITION TO LOWER THE HOME SIGNAL. |

| -B) Should a ballast train requiring to stop in the section arrive before the �Train out of Section� for the previous train has been received, the signalman must advise the signalman at the other end of the section by speaking instrument of the circumstances and the signalman may, upon receiving the information, give the �Train Out of Section� signal in accordance with the last paragraph of clause (A) of Regulation 10. -C) When a ballast train working in the section has to return to the staff station in rear, on shunting outside the home signal at that end must be allowed until a man with hand-signals and detonators has been sent out to protect such shunting. -D) Should the guard of the ballast train require his train to return to the signalbox in rear, in stead of going through to the signalbox in advance, he must obtain verbal permission of the signalman before the train enters the section. When the train arrives complete and the single line is again clear, the signalman must give the �Cancelling� signal to the signalbox in advance. -E) A freight train calling at an intermediate siding in section and an inspection train requiring to stop in section must be dealt with in accordance with clauses (A) and (B). The signalman in rear must inform the signalman in advance the description of the train. |

| 9) Trolley going into or Through Tunnel. (2�1�2). -A) When it is necessary for a trolley to go into or through any of the tunnels specially numerated in the appendices to the service timetables as coming within the application of this regulation, the Ganger or man in charge of the trolley must be in possession of the train staff or ticket and the trolley must be signalled on the block instruments in accordance with the prescribed �Is Line Clear?� signal. The signalman in advance must, if the line be clear to the home, or outermost home signal if there is more than one provided, give permission for the trolley to approach his box in accordance with the �Warning Arrangement,� Regulation 5. No train must be allowed to enter the section on the same line until the �Train Out of Section� signal has been received to indicate the trolley has passed the next signal box, or been taken off the rails. Trolleys passing through all other tunnels must be protected solely by the Permanent Way men�s own signals. �When a trolley has to remain stationary in the section in which the tunnel is situated although it has been signalled on the block instruments, the train staff must be given to the Ganger or man in charge of the trolley, who must be told when receiving the staff to which end of the section it is to be taken and at what time it is to be there, in order to clear the line for the next train. -B) Should a trolley require to go into or through any of the tunnels coming within the application of this Regulation before the �Train Out of Section� signal for the previous train has been received, the signalman must advise the signalman at the opposite end of the section by speaking instrument of the circumstances and the signalman at that box may, upon receiving this information if the line be clear to his home signal, give the �Train Out of Section� signal in accordance with the last paragraph of clause (A) of Regulation 10. -C) Should the trolley, after passing into or through the tunnel, be removed from the rails before reaching the next signalbox, the Ganger, or man in charge must take the train staff or ticket to the signalman in advance, and inform him that the trolley is clear of the line; the signalman must then send the �Train Out of Section� signal. If, however, time would be saved, the Ganger or man in charge must return the train staff or ticket to the signalbox in rear and inform the signalman that the trolley is clear of the line; the signalman must then send the �Cancelling� signal. �TROLLEYS PROPELLED BY SUCH MEANS THAT ENABLE A FAST SPEED TO BE ATTAINED MUST BE SIGNALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS REGULATION, WHETHER THERE BE A TUNNEL IN THE SECTION OR NOT. SUCH TROLLEYS MUST NOT BE PUT ON THE RAILS EXCEPT AT SIGNALBOXES, AND MUST ALWAYS BE RUN THROUGH THE BLOCK SECTION, AND CARRY THE TRAIN STAFF OR TICKET. |

| 10) Train Out of Section. (2�1). -A) Unless instructions are issued to the contrary, trains must be considered out of section and the �Train Out of Section� signal given to the signalbox in rear as under the following: - (i) At a crossing place, when the last vehicle of the train, with tail lamp attached, has been drawn clear onto the loop line, or when the train has been shunted clear of the line. (ii) At a terminal station, when the last vehicle of the train, with tail lamp attached, has passed the home signal. (iii) At a junction (other than a crossing place), when the last vehicle of the train, with tail lamp attached, has passed at least a quarter of a mile beyond the home signal, or the train has been shunted clear of the single line, or where the train has been brought to a stand in advance of the junction and the facing points have been set for another line and that the line is clear for at least a quarter of a mile beyond the home signal. (iv) At a junction with a double line, when the last vehicle of the train, with tail lamp attached, has been drawn clear on to the double line, or the train has been shunted clear of the single line. (v) At a signalbox which is not a crossing place, when the last vehicle of the train, with tail lamp attached, has passed at least a quarter of a mile beyond the home signal, or the train has been shunted clear of the single line. In circumstances where the use of Regulation 5 is authorised the �Train Out of Section� signal must be given as soon as the last vehicle, with the tail lamp attached, has passed the home signal. |

| -B) When the last vehicle of a train does not pass the signalbox before it has been shunted into a siding, or when a train has been brought to a stand inside a home signal, and it is necessary to give the �Train Out of Section� signal before the train passes the signalbox, the signalman must, before giving such signal, ascertain from the Guard or Shunter in charge of the train that the whole of the train, with tail lamp attached, has arrived, and the Guard or Shunter will be held responsible for giving this information to the signalman, the Fireman being similarly responsible in the case of a light engine. � THE �TRAIN OUT OF SECTION� SIGNAL NEED NOT BE ACKNOWLEDGED IF RUNNING UNDER PRE/POST*-1936 RULES. IN ALL OTHER CASES THE �TRAIN OUT OF SECTION� SIGNAL MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED. *THE RULE THAT THE �TRAIN OUT OF SECTION� SIGNAL NEED NOT BE ACKNOWLEDGED DOES NOT APPLY TO POST-1971 REGULATIONS WHERE THE SIGNAL HAS TO BE PRECEDED BY �CALL ATTENTION� AND MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED. |

| 11) Course to be pursued if a Train is an unusually long time in a Section. (6�2). �When a train is an unusually long time in a section, the signalmen at both ends of the section must take the requisite action to ascertain the cause and, if necessary, immediately communicate with the stationmaster. |
