Calculus III (multivariable) will be offered for the first time during the 2008-2009 school year. It is intended for students who have previously passed AB or BC Advanced Placement Calculus. Students who have not yet taken the BC Calculus exam or who wish to improve their scores may take the Advanced Placement Calculus Test the morning of May 6, 2009, and many will receive college credit. For more information, see Advanced Placement at CollegeBoard.com .
Students will be using graphing calculators in class and when taking the Advanced Placement Test. It is strongly recommended that each student buy his or her own calculator if at all possible. The calculator that is recommended is the TI-89. Students may use the newer TI-89 Titanium Edition or the older TI-89. For more information about this calculator click the photo at left.
The TI-89 calculator can usually be purchased locally at Staples, Office Max, Target, or the WSU Bookstore. Costco often carries them in the fall. The TI-89 can also be purchased online at:
We will be using: Multivariable CALCULUS by James Stewart. This is the same book used at both the University of Washington and Washington State University. This book will be provided of course, but students who wish to purchase their own copy to keep will find it at Amazon.com . There are also copies available on Ebay. If you do decide to buy your own, be sure to purchase the sixth edition.

You must own a TI calculator so that you can load the calculator ROM to the computer, and you will need a graph-link cable to connect to the computer. This does not yet work with the Titanium Edition. |
