Professional Experience
1997-1998: Worked with The Post, a national English language newspaper in
Cameroon. My duties included writing articles for the foreign page and editing
foreign news articles writing by other journalists. I learnt how to work under
deadline pressure, and as part of a team.
June 2000: Employed as a journalist in the Cameroon Radio Television corporation.
I was stationed in Buea (South West Province). Here, I work for Mount Cameroon
FM, which is one of two radio stations operated by the CRTV in the province.
My duties at the time of employment included writing and reporting news for
the station and also for national radio and television, producing and presenting
radio programmes for Mount Cameroon FM. In the process, I was also expected
to do some other chores for Radio Buea, which was the other radio station
owned and operated by the CRTV in the Southwest Province.
In 2003, I was appointed as the Assistant Chief of Service for Musical Programming
at the station. My responsibilities included the duties I was already performing
before this date, and the drawing up of a musical playlist for the station.
This was done in consultation of the audience and in collaboration with colleagues
assigned to other services.
In 2005, I was appointed as Assistant Chief of Service for Production and
Directing. This is the post I occupy presently. The responsibilities included
the duties at employment. In addition, I have to record and produce sounders
and programme signature tunes for the station. I also have the responsibility
over the quality of programmes that have been recorded for eventual broadcast
on the station. My responsibilities also include the organization of outside
broadcast events, where the station moves to an external location, usually
out of town, from where it broadcasts some programmes live. This is usually
done in close collaboration with other services and with assistance from the
station manager.
Some programmes which I presently produce and present on the station include
Hall of Fame, which is an art programme. Focus is on Cameroonian and international
art form such as books, painting, music and films. I also produce and present
Newtech, a programme on new information and communication technologies. On
this programme, I inform the listener of the latest developments (in what
concerns them) and also educate them on some basic uses of the computer system
(software and hardware.)
