| In December of 1976 The Sex Pistols made their first apearance dressed in their filthy rags and shreads of what today you would call "punk" style. Not only did they catch the attention of the tv viewers they caught the attention of the UK and America. The Sex Pistols had arrived. The Sex Pistols were managed by Malcom McLaren, a manger who had just briefly got done with The New York Dolls. The band was formed in 1975 by Glen Matlock who would make it all happen, Paul Cook and Steve Jones who would then be the drummer and guitarist of the band. The bands name would have been the Swankers but then changed cause of the anarchic sound they wanted to achieve from the bands name. With all of the progressve british rock and hippy music McLaredn knew he needed an extrodinary front man, and he found one. It all happened when assistant and future manger of the Clash spotted green haired Johnny Rotten wearing a pink floyd shirt and had his"I Don't Give a Fuck" additude. He was then envited to join the band for a try out. The next day he belted out a odd version of Alice Coopers "Eighteen". McLaren was impressed. the other band members had not taken a liking to Rotten and told him fuck off. With the negative energy from the band Rotten turned the band into what now is one of the most spectacular groups ever. After heading the 100 Punk Festval the band was signed to EMI records. They then went on the Anarchy Tour while being supported by The Clash,The Damned and The Heartbreakers. Their single "Anarchy in the UK" was hitting the charts. It made it to number 38 by the years end. Later that year Glen Matlock was booted from the group for "liking the Beatles" and was replaced by Rottens friend Sid Vicious. Whether he was talentless or not his cartoony punk additude is just what the band needed. Only after a few months Vicious hooked up with gropupie and drug addict Nancy Spungen, who introduced the heroin that would enter the band and kill them too. After being fired from EMI records the group was signed to A&M . But the A&M did a "EM" and dropped the band becasue of complaints from other people. With no label they figured no one would sign them in time to release their next single "God Save The Queen". But punk hate figure Richard Branson and his virgin records picked tehm up and shot them off like nothing else. the record was a hit. Despite 0 airplay time the band was well known and loved. It even made it to #1 that week. The band played a gig on a Thames riverboat but were takin to jail. Soon Rotten and Cook were suffering from street attacks and the life of the band was gettin hot, very hot indeed. the band stilll pulling through it toured Sweden and released "Pretty Vacant" and "Holidays In The Sun" and soon released the Never Mind the Bollocks Heres the Sex Pistols LP. The LP was great and is still a lengendary punk album today. While the album was successing the rest of the group was falling apart, Vicious becoming addicted to heroin and Rotten being neglected by everyone. The bandsUS tour was not much of a success with more people coming to see the"freaks" then the music. It didnt help when Vicious began to mutilate his bare chest right there. The band began to do seperate thing, Jones and Cook flew to brazil to record their own stuff, while Vicious did his vesion of some covers. Soon Sid was charged for murder by stabbing his girlfreind Nancy in the back. Then,on Febuary 2 1979 Sid Vicious died of a heroin overdose. The band had many movies made about them including Sid and Nancy and The Great Rock and Roll Swindle. Whether the movies are accrurate or not the Sex Pistols will remain a lengend. | ||||||||||||||
