SEPTEMBER 2002 NEWSLETTER
Welcome back for another wonderful year. We are ready to get started. Please check the calendar of events for a list of dates already on the books. You will notice that our web site has been updated over the summer so please check it out. If you can think of something else you would like on the site please let Gabriele Hammon know and she will gladly add it.
Here is an activity to try with your troop to start off the year. Recipe for a Girl Scout Troop (Put us all together, and we'll take it to the top) 1. Girl Scouts come in all colors, from all places around the world. Every Girl Scout is a sister no matter where she is from, no matter the language she speaks, no matter the color of her skin. God loves variety, and Girl Scouts are the colors of the rainbow. (M&M Candies) 2. We have a promise and a law. On our honor, we try to do our best to be fair and square. (Chex Cereal) 3. Some of us are tall, and some of us are small. When we get together, size doesn't matter at all. (Pretzel thins and mini marshmallows) 4. Sometimes we are nutty. We love to joke and play. We'd love to put a Girl Scout smile into everyone's day. (Nuts) 5. When we get together, we seem to make circles. We may sit in circles, play circle games, make a Friendship Circle. You could say that we are well-rounded. (Cheerios) 6. When we are busy planning a project, or doing a craft, we pop around until we're done. (Popcorn) 7. Girl Scouts respect all living things. The earth is our home, and we want to keep it safe for everyone. (Goldfish crackers or animal crackers) 8. Girl Scout are "chips off the old block". Girl Scouting began in 1912. Since then we all have been part of an old tradition, and are proud to be part of the future. (Banana Chips) 9. We get a kick out of wearing our uniforms, learning new things, helping others, and being together with our friends. (Kix Cereal) 10. Young Girl scouts may be hard to resist because they are fresh, sweet and new. But the older scout may be more fun, because she has more experience than you! (Raisins)

URGENT TROOP BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION All troop leaders, assistant leaders and troop treasurers: Cynthia Mealy, our membership development manager is the first point of contact for your troop bank accounts. Any and all changes to the bank account must go through her. She works directly with the personal Girl Scout banker, Rowena, at the Queen Anne branch. She is familiar with how the Girl Scout accounts are set up so any changes will be done correctly. If you go to your local branch or call customer service, they do not understand how our accounts are set up which may result in serious problems. For example, if you ask them to change the mailing address for your statements, they may inadvertently change all of the accounts in the service unit (This has happened twice, recently!) So again, please contact Cynthia Mealy for any and all changes to your bank accounts. You can reach Cynthia at (425)656-9175 or [email protected] Remember Girl Scout Bank Accounts are free. If you are being charged a monthly service charge please connect Cynthia immediately. DO NOT CALL THE BANK YOURSELF.
SERVICE UNIT PR LEAD SHEET The public impression of Girl Scouts is affected by the activities of everyone in the organization and the Service Unit PR representative is the key to keeping your troops visible in the community. But she needs your help. Each time your troop has an activity or service project, let her know when it is happening, no matter how insignificant it seems! Many local papers are happy to let the community know what Girl Scouts in the area are doing and learning. So with your help, we can show all of the Northwest Washington what we already know-that girls grow courageous and strong through Girl Scouts! Just email Gabriele Hammon 2-3 weeks before any project or event begins with the following information: Leader(s) name, Troop #, Phone #, Event date, and a Brief Description of Project.
