CARBIDE. Generally, carbides are binary compounds consisting of carbon and another, more electropositive element. Carbides have a number of different uses, depending upon the second component, and are used for everything from industrial tools to insulators.  Specifically, I suggest that there are silicon carbide ceramic insulators as part of the Vipers life support system, which occasionally ablate and contaminate the crafts support vapors.  The carbon bonds with the freshly released oxygen molecules from the oxygen support system, forming a mix of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, the latter being the more prevalent. Symptoms of carbide leakage are: headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness.

CLONE. Clones are individuals grown from a single somatic cell, derived from the parent and genetically identical to it, although sometimes enhanced. The life-form designation for the clones is Theta, and indeed they prefer this reference. Whether the term is based on a classification that the Colonials are familiar with is unknown, but it is logical to assume that since the clones have knowledge of other Colonial nomenclature that this designation is taken from Colonials as well.

Based on the recognition of the clones in IZ, cloning technology must be known to the Colonials, or at least postulated. After all, Ravashal was originally one of theirs, and we know that they have cracked the human genome. However, we dont see any evidence that cloning is widespread. From the Greek
klOn, meaning, branch.

COLONIES, TWELVE. The Twelve Colonies were the homeworlds of the Colonials, after the exodus from Kobol by twelve of the thirteen tribes of Kobol. The Colonies are Aeries, Aquaria, Cancera, Caprica, Gemoni (or Gemini), Leo, Libra, Piscon, Sagitara, Scorpia, Taura and Virgon (there are a number of variations in spelling).

It is conceivable that the 12 colonies are all located in a single planetary system. The Large Scale Tactical Display seen in the pilot episode to indicate the locations of three of the planets suggests that this may be so, and suggests that the system is a trinary system, consisting of three suns.

There are however, only ten worlds indicated on the display around the three stars seen in closest proximity to one another. It can thus be surmised that either one or two of the 12 worlds are in fact moons in orbit around gas giants, or that the two are not in the same planetary system, but are part of an adjoining one.

The location of the named worlds below is speculation based on Colonel Tighs indication of the locations of Cylon Base Stars and the order in which the coordinates and world names are given.
COMPUTERS. Generally programmable electronic devices that can store, retrieve, and process data. See Computer, Electronics and EM Technologies for more detail.

CRYOGENICS. Generally, this is the science of extreme cold and its effects on various materials and organisms. Specifically it is used by the Colonials for the retardation of the metabolic functions of medical patients in special circumstances. From the Greek kryos, meaning icy cold, and genos, for birth, or more generally, pertains to.

CRYANUS GALAXY.
The Colonial name for their home galaxy. I suggest that it is either M110 or M31 (Andromeda).
