SUPER G - GIAAN ROONEY FAN SITE

THE STORY SO FAR...

In a case of deja vu Rooney posted the excat same time to claim the 2nd position.

In the 200m Free. Giaan finished ahead of Petria Thomas to claim the second individual position.

At the 2000 Olympics Giaan gained two Silver medals, one in the 4 x 200m F'style relay, and the other in the 4 x 100m Individual medley relay.

Rooney was disappointed with her individual performances, as she didn't swim for 2 weeks before the Olympics or do any gym work for 6 due to a rib stress fracture. "I think that cost me a place in the 100m backstroke final and I even felt capable of winning bronze in the 200m freestyle." she said.

Giaan had a 5 week break after the Games and travelled to North America. The 2001 Queensland State titles saw Giaan Rooney break the oldest state record in the books - 200m backstroke, where she swum 2.14.33 - faster than Georgina Parkes at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

Cotterell believes she is capable of swimming 2 min.10s swim.

[Side note: Rooney holds the QLD State long couse records for 50,100,200m Backstroke in the 16 yrs, 17&18 yrs and holds all but the 100m open records]

Her sucess in the 200m freestyle, one of the then recently retired Susie O'Neill's signature titles, with a (untapered) swim of 2min00.8sec surprised her with Giaan saying - "...It was terrific considering my best is 1:59.5.".
