| WEIGHTING OF GRADES: The purpose of weighting grades is to encourage learning, for learnings� sake, and to reduce the stress of competitive ranking. Grade points of higher value are assigned to high weight classes. The point value is then used in determining the student�s grade point total. The following system shows point values assigned to grades earned in the areas of high weight and standard weight (technical and general course offerings). GRADES HIGH STANDARD A 5 4 B 4 3 C 3 2 D 2 1 F 0 0 The courses listed below have high weighting. Advanced Placement Courses Southwest Virginia Governor�s School Courses Honors English 9 Spanish III Honors English 10 Latin III Honors English 11 College English 12 Algebra II College Pre-Calculus Trig/Statistics College Calculus Biology II (Anatomy) College Biology Chemistry II College U.S. History French III College Physics Honors U.S. Government College Music Theory Students are encouraged to take high weight courses.
