THE NETWORKING ACADEMY

The Regional Networking Academy prepares students to design, install, and support networks.  Additionally, students are prepared to install, troubleshoot, and repair personal computers.  Course work includes extensive hands-on experience with networks and personal computers.  The program will use curriculum from the CISCO Networking Academy, which prepares students to sit for the A++ certification examination.

Networking I (Prerequisite: Successful interview with VCCS faculty & GHS faculty)
Grade level: 11 (Standard Weight - 13 VCCS College Credits)

The first year�s course work consists of
ITN 154 and 155 Networking Fundamentals and Introductory Routing.  Both are CISCO Networking Academy courses.  ITN 154-Provides introduction to networking using the OSI reference model.  ITN 155-Features an introduction to basic router configuration using Cisco IOS software.  ITD Web Page Design I - Stresses a working knowledge of web site designs, construction, and management using HTML or XHTML.  BUS 116 Entrepreneurship I - presents the various steps necessary when going into business.  Students will earn 13 college credits.

Networking II (Prerequisite: Networking I)
Grade level: 12 (Standard Weight - 16 VCCS College Credits)

The second year of course work consists of
ITN 156 Basic Switching and Routing - CISCO.  Instruction centers instruction in LAN segmentation using bridges, routers, and switches.  ITN 157 WAN Technologies-CISCO concentrates on an introduction to Wide Area Networking (WANs).  ITN 295 (171) LAN Administration introduces various types of Local Area Network (LAN) technologies, with a strong emphasis on their underlying protocols. ITN 107 Hardware and troubleshooting emphasizes hardware troubleshooting and includes a hands on lab. This course contains a technical approach to concepts and terminology of computer information systems and includes the study of computer information systems, hardware, software, and the functions, capabilities and limitations of computer systems.  Students will earn 16 college credits.
