Upon successful completion of three (3) credits in family and consumer science, a student is awarded a VOCATIONAL COMPLETER CERTIFICATE.

Individual Development (Prerequisite: None)
Grade level: 8,9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

Individual Development is a single-block, one-year course in which the student learns life management skills such as personal organization and management practices needed to make responsible decisions.  Developing one�s personal potential as well as career planning is stressed.

Resource Management (Prerequisite: None)
Grade level: 9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

Resource Management is a single-block, one year course in which the student learns life management skills in the areas of nutrition, clothing, housing, and household management.  Focus is given on managing resources to achieve individual goals.  Computer skills that enhance family and household management are included.

Nutrition and Wellness/Parenting (Prerequisite: Individual Dev. or Resource Man. recommended)
Grade level: 9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

Nutrition and Wellness is a single-block, one semester course in which the student learns how to make healthy food choices that promote wellness and good health.  Meal planning, preparation, and diet analysis are included.

Parenting is a single-block, one semester course that focuses on all aspects of child growth and development.  Emphasis is given to parental responsibility, nurturing skills, and building positive relationships with children.

Intro. to Home Furnishings, and Interior Design Occupations /Intro. to Fashion Design & Merchandising Occupations (Prerequisite: Individual Development or Resource Management)      
Grade level: 10,11,12 (Standard Weight)

Introduction to Housing, Home Furnishings, and Interior Design Occupations is a single-block, one semester course that focuses on career skills needed for real estate sales, home design, and simple architecture, as well as interior decorating and design.  Successful completion of this class can enable the student to qualify for an apprenticeship in this area of study.

Introduction to Fashion Design and Merchandising Occupations is a single-block, one year course in which the student learns the skills needed in the fashion design, manufacturing, and merchandising industry.  Areas of study include color and design, textiles, apparel production, and fashion merchandising.  Successful completion of this class can enable the student to qualify for an apprenticeship in this area of study.

Teacher Cadet (Prerequisite: 3.0 GPA Teacher Recommendation)
Grade level: 12  (Standard Weight)

The Teacher Cadet course introduces seniors to a career in teaching and education. The primary elements of the curriculum components are the learner, the school, and the teacher and teaching. The components are intentionally broad in scope and provide a great deal of flexibility based on the career interest of the student. In addition to the fundamental curriculum components, all students are required to participate in an internship outside the teacher cadet classroom. The internship may involve pre-school level through grade 12.
