Dual Credit Computer Information Systems (Prerequisite: Keyboarding Applications, Teacher Recommendation)
Grade level: 11,12 (Standard Weight - 6 VCCS College Credits)
CIS is a WCC Dual Credit course designed to introduce students to microcomputer technology and business applications using spreadsheets, databases, graphics, and word processing. Students explore data telecommunications, operating systems, and basic networking principles. This course fulfills the local requirement for a computer course.
IST 117 Introduction to Microcomputer Software is a 1 semester (3 transfer college credits) course which provides a working introduction to microcomputer software, fundamentals, and applications. It includes operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
AST 236 Specialized Software Applications is a 1 semester (3 transfer college credits) course which teaches specialized integrated software application on the microcomputer. It emphasizes document production to meet business and industry standards.
Students will be responsible for purchasing their own WCC textbooks.

Dual Credit Word Processing (Prerequisite: Keyboarding Applications)
Grade level: 11,12 (Standard Weight - 6 VCCS College Credits) Tech Prep Sequence
Word Processing is a WCC Dual Credit course designed to develop intermediate to advanced level word processing skills using a variety of software functions, including graphics and desktop publishing. Students gain competence integrating other applications such as databases and spreadsheets into word processing activities. Classroom experiences also provide for skill development in communication. This course satisfies the local requirement for a computer course.
AST 141 Word Processing I is a 1 semester (3 college credits) course which teaches creating and editing documents, including line and page layouts, columns, fonts, search/replace, cut/paste, spell/thesaurus, and advanced editing and formatting features of word processing software.
AST 142 Word Processing II is a 1 semester (3 college credits) course which teaches advanced software applications. Prerequisite is AST 141.
Both AST 141 and 142 are technical courses for non-transfer college programs.
