CAREER PATHWAYS (Senior Elective)

Career Pathways (Prerequisite: Meet ICT Requirement)
Grade level: 12 (Standard Weight)

Career Pathways Phase I will consist of a 9 week classroom experience designed to help students determine how to find the right career by matching their interests and aptitudes with occupational information.  Employability skills will also be introduced.

Phase II will give students the opportunity to mix classroom learning with exploratory experience within a chosen business or industry for another 9 week period.  They will investigate a variety of pathways to career success and determine which ones they would like to explore in more detail.  This phase will consist of short-term work site visits.

Phase III will allow students to observe and assist a professional (mentor) in their chosen career one block every other day.  The internship may be paid or unpaid, as approved by the program coordinator.  Phase III is an 18 week (one semester) course with intermittent classroom instruction and/or seminars. Students will complete a different internship each 6 weeks.

Students will be required to successfully complete sequential phases of Career Pathways, keep a daily journal of activities and reactions to them, prepare a portfolio, participate in group activities to discuss internship experience, and give an oral presentation to a panel of professionals and/or peers.  Upon successful completion of all three phases, students will be awarded one elective credit.
