| ART Art I - Art Foundations (Prerequisite: None) Grade level: 8,9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Art I is an introduction to the many phases of art using the basic principles of art and art awareness. The course will include project work in several different types of art: drawing and sketching, color study, graphic design, art history and appreciation, three dimensional design and related projects. There are some variations in types of projects from year to year. Art II - Intermediate Art (Prerequisite: Art I) Grade level: 9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Students will continue to develop and refine skills learned in Art I through a wide variety of art experiences. Projects may vary from year to year. Art III, IV & V - Advanced Art (Prerequisite: Art II) Grade level: 10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Advanced Art students are required to work independently in many phases of art using the skills learned in Art I and Art II. The teacher and student will establish an appropriate schedule of required study areas each six weeks. Area of greatest strength or interest may be studied in depth through independent studies by each student. For example, a unit on photography might focus on the basic operations of a 35 mm camera, techniques for developing black and white film and how to make quality enlargements in the darkroom. Experimental processes such as toning and hand coloring. Photojournalism (Prerequisite: Approval of Instructor) Grade level: 10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Photojournalism is a credit elective class. Students taking this class plan, design, and produce the school yearbook. Topics covered include journalistic writing, graphic design, fundamentals of yearbook layout, design, and photography. Some after school and weekend work is necessary. Class limit - fifteen students. Students must apply for a position on staff. Applications include teacher recommendations, attendance and discipline records, grades and a sample of student writing. |
