| AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION (A Career Cluster Program) Ag. Mechanics and Plant Science I (Prerequisite: Tech Prep Sequence) Grade level: 8,9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Agriculture Mechanics and Plant Science I is a one year, single block, occupational preparation course. Approximately one-half of the course is devoted to agricultural mechanics with emphasis placed on skill development in basic metals, tool filing and cold metals, plan reading and sketching, and hand woodworking. The remainder of the course emphasizes the development of competencies in plant sciences, rural and urban living, leadership, and resource conservation. Ag. Mechanics and Plant Sci. II (Prerequisite: Ag. I, Tech Prep Sequence) Grade level: 9,10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Agriculture Science and Mechanics II is a one year, single block, occupational preparation course. Approximately one-half of the course is devoted to agricultural mechanics with emphasis placed on skill development in the fundamentals of electricity, arc welding, gas cutting and welding, small engines, power woodworking, and wood and metal preservatives. Instruction is provided in rural and urban living, leadership, and resource conservation. Agricultural Production Technology III (Prerequisite: Ag. I & Ag. II recommended, Tech Prep Sequence) Grade level: 10,11,12 (Standard Weight) Agricultural Production Technology is a one-year occupational preparation course offered at the tenth or eleventh grade level. The course is designed to assist students in developing the necessary knowledge, skills, habits, and attitudes for employment in the field of agriculture, on - or off-farm. The course focuses on mechanics in ag. production, plant science, landscape and turf management, livestock management, and developing leadership skills in the FFA, an integral part of agricultural education. Agricultural Production Management IV (Prerequisite: Ag. I, Ag. II, & Ag. III recommended, Tech Prep Sequence) Grade level: 11, 12 (Standard Weight) Agricultural Production Management is a one-year occupational preparation course offered at the eleventh or twelfth grade level. The curriculum emphasis is on mechanics in agriculture production, plant science in agriculture production, the livestock enterprise, and developing FFA leadership skills. Operating the Farm Business V (Prerequisite: Ag. I, Ag. II, & Ag. III recommended, Tech Prep Sequence) Grade level: 12 (Standard Weight) Operating the Farm Business is a one year course designed to be an occupational preparation course that focuses on advanced mechanics in agriculture production, using plant science in agriculture production, managing natural resources, managing the forest enterprise, operating the farm as a business, poultry production, apiary management, managing livestock, and developing leadership skills in the FFA, a youth organization for students enrolled in agricultural education. To earn an Agriculture Vocational Completer Certificate, a student must complete a minimum of three agriculture courses.
