Finding a Florist
  • Get recommendations from friends
  • Sample the florist you rely on for simpler occasions
  • Call the American Institute of Floral Desginers for referrals:  (410) 752-3320
  • Ask wedding site managers
  • Reserve the florist three to six months in advance. Allow for more time if you are marrying during a popular time of year, such as June through September
  • Research flower arranging, flower symbolism, etc. Figure out which flowers you like the most and designs you like. (check out the flower page on this site for some help)
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau once you have found a florist you want to interview

Questions to ask
the Florist

  1. Ask the florist about their design philosophy- which flowers, styles, and palettes they favor. Also inquire as to what design style they favor, such as minimalist, traditional, elegent, edgy, modern, etc.

  3. Ask to see actual examples or photographs of the florists work
  4. Will the floral designer you are interviewing be arranging your flowers? How many other staff members will assist?
  5. Get a sense of the florist's expertise by asking him/her about which flowers are in season,  about maximizing options and more affordable alternative to designs that are beyond your budget
  6. What flowers are least likely to wilt in hot weather? Which flowers most likely will?
  7. Has the florist done weddings at your ceremony and reception site before? If so, ask to see samples to get an idea of how your site matched with his/her work might look
  8. Who will be responsible for the delivery and set-up of the flowers and arrangements?
