Lily
Rivera is the estranged daughter of a Puerto Rican crime boss, and
Marisol's sister. When she got pregnant at the age of 16, their father
sent her away to a convent and as soon as the baby was born forced her
to give him up for adoption.
Lily later came to Port Charles to resolve her feelings for Miguel (her
son's father) at the request of Sonny Corinthos. She also met her son,
Juan, and after seeing how happy he was with his adoptive family, she
decided to leave him there. She made a life for herself in Port
Charles; she got a teaching job, and recaptured the love that she &
Miguel had as teenagers. Their relationship didn't last, but she
continued to grow closer to Sonny. Lily & Sonny eventually got
married. She had a profound effect on the men in Port Charles. Through
her efforts, Sonny & Mike reconciled, she sat with Stone (who was dying
of AIDS) while Robin & Sonny rested; explained things to Jason and
formed friendships with Luke, Justus, & Lois.
Through all this, Sonny was unable to get Brenda out of his heart and
decided to leave Lily. Before he could tell her, she announced she was
pregnant. Sonny vowed then to be the husband that Lily deserved.
Meanwhile, Lily's father was having Sonny watched and decided that Sonny
was not living up to his promise of being a good husband (completely
unaware of his newfound devotion to Lily or her pregnancy) and decided
to get rid of him. He made plans to place a bomb in Sonny's car.
Marisol discovered her father's plan and went to warn Lily, who was
beginning to have doubts about Sonny's love for her, their marriage, and
the dangerous lifestyle she was about to bring a child into. Together,
the sisters decided to fake Lily's death to get her out of both their
father & Sonny's sphere. However, things went horribly wrong and their
father found out and caused the explosion to happen before Marisol &
Lily originally planned - that nearly resulted in Lily's death. Shortly
after the realization that he had completely torn his family apart,
Marisol & Lily's father died of a heart attack and left all of his
estate to his daughters.
After Lily recovered from her injuries, she made a life for herself in
Puerto Rico and decided it was for the best that everyone believed she
was dead. She remained extremely close with Marisol and her family.
Now that Marisol is going through the fight of her life in the search
for her newborn son, Lily decides it's time to return to Port Charles to
be the support system her sister so desperately needs. But, with the
plastic surgery she had to undergo after her accident, will anyone know
that it's *THE* Lily?
