Jessica's life had been turmoil for a long time. She had found out that she wasn't really Viki's daughter and than found out that she really was Viki's daughter, only that Mitch Laurence had fathered her through rape. After that, she was kidnapped by Mitch and emotionally tortured but than Mitch suddenly turned up dead and Jessica thought that she had killed her own father, although this was never proven. Through all of this, there was one person who stood by her side and tried their best to protect her, Antonio Vega. Even when Jessica married Tico, Antonio still stood by her.
All of their trials and tribulations resulted in them getting married after many obstacles stalled them. They were happy for awhile, however, Jessica had started to experience these blackouts, losing track of time. She kept it to herself, never telling Antonio or her mother, fearing that something was terribly wrong with her. Jessica just chalked it up to stress. Her life took a turn for the worse when Tia Lord Forrester turned up, saying that she was Viki's long lost sister, making her Jessica's aunt. One night, Jessica caught Antonio and Tia having sex and it broke her heart. She filed for divorce even though she still loved Antonio but couldn't get over his betrayal. She was also starting to be fatigued all the time, Jessica thought that her health was fading. Though after a check up at the doctor, she found out that nothing was physically wrong with her.
Hearing about Lainey Winters, a renowned psychologist, living in Port Charles Jessica thought that she would go see her and maybe find out what her blackouts were and how to deal with them. Her life in Llanview was over and hearing that her uncle Todd had moved to Port Charles, she thought that it would be a good move from her as well. The virus epidemic gave her the reason she needed and Jessica left Llanview, Port Charles bound. Only thing was that she didn't know her soon to be ex-husband had also made the same move she had by joining the PCPD and her aunt Tia, the one responsible for ruining her marriage, was living in Port Charles as well.
