Gabriella, along with her twin brother have always been raised in the
mob lifestyle. Their mother died during child birth due to immense blood
loss and their father never knew that their mother was pregnant. So the
two children were raised by their grandfather (their father's father),
Agostino Gionvanni, who was the head of the Giovanni crime organization.
At the age of five, their grandfather
died and he tracked down his son, Gustavo Giovanni, leaving him the
family business as well as Gabriella and her brother.
As Gabriella
got older, she grew to dislike her father's business. She knew what it
entailed and never understood her father's thirst for power, which grew
to a very scary degree, it seemed the more power he gained, the less
stable he became mentally. When she was 18, Gabriella met a young man
who she ended up becoming engaged to and fell in love with. At the age
of 20, on the day her wedding was to commence, she confided to her
brother that she thought her fiancee was cheating on her. The night of
the ceremony, as Gabriella was walking down the isle, she was informed
that her fiancee had been killed...shot in the head on his way to the
church. To her surprise, Gustavo told her that he had her fiancee killed
because he overheard her concerns of his infidelity and he felt that the
man wasn't worthy to be married to his daughter. Gabriella hasn't
stopped loving her father, even though he murdered her fiancee but, she
hasn't been with anyone since than because she is afraid that any little
slip up a man makes will cost him his life.
