Toby grew up in a Chicago orphanage, where he was constantly abused mentally and physically by the caretakers. For fifteen years, Toby put up withthe abuse, until one day when the orphanage burned to the ground. Toby disappeared that night, and no one ever knew he even existed in that town.
Toby had never been mentally stable, and the constant beatings and belittlements he took didn't help matters. He seemed to be a little more rational once he got out of town, however.
Dropping out of school, Toby made his way toward California and got a job waiting tables and various other odd jobs to make ends meet. When he was seventeen, he was cast in a major motion picture alongside a major star, and his career instantly took off.
Toby started getting more major roles, making tons of money, and having many beautiful women in his bed. But none of that made him feel good. He knew he was gay, but couldn't come out because the world would shun him. He'd sneak out of locale shoots in disguise just to be pleasured by male prostitutes.
That's when he met Wade Coleman, a handsome, yet underage young man living on the streets. Wade took on the job of Toby's 'personal assistant' in and out of the bedroom. But their relationship took a sour turn when Toby started beating him whenever he lost out of a role, or when he thought Wade was cheating on him.
Toby has convinced Wade to make a home movie of the two having sex, but the tape soon fell into the wrong hands. When Wade was blackmailed by Cassandra into giving her over a million dollars, Toby beat Wade up so badly that he ended up in the hospital, with the excuse that he'd fallen down the stairs.
Toby loved Wade, but when things got rough, he got sadistic in his beatings. Wade fought back, but Toby had all but crushed his spirit over the brief time they were together. When Wade left, Toby was a mixed bag of emotion. He both loved and hated Wade, and swore that the next time they met, he'd make love to Wade before making him pay for leaving him.
Now that the sex tape of him and Wade has been released, it doesn't take much for Toby to track Wade down for a very bitter reunion. Toby's a laughing stock in Hollywood, and he needs to lay low for a while, so he's heading to Port Charles to take care of some old business, and is quickly losing his grip on sanity...
Toby's stay in Port Charles was filled with violence. After confronting Wade, Toby met Guy Tucker. Soon the two were involved in an abusive relationship. Guy finally got out. Toby went off the deep end but there was someone else who was watching from affair. Danny Parish hit Toby on the head and let him drown in the harbor. A star is dead an the man who did it doesn't remember.
