Jared Black

Player: Mandy

Relationships: Struggling with his feelings for Tasha Campbell

Jared Black used to be a good guy.  He grew up the only son in a close knit family.  His mother was a loving woman and his father was the sort of man who wanted to instill good moral character in his child.  When his father was on his death bed, Jared promised him that he would do something good with his time on earth.  He graduated from university with a law degree and hoped to start his own practice.  But his life was about to go in the opposite direction.

One night Jared got a call from his cousin, Cheyenne.  Growing up, the two had been close but they had drifted apart when she moved away.  He was surprised to hear from her - and even more surprised when she explained why she called.  She admitted to her cousin that she married men just to wipe out their bank accounts.  She had recently married her third husband - a Harvey Garcia.  She had come to realize that he was a soldier in the New York Mafia after she had skipped town with a good chunk of his and his boss' money.  Garcia was coming after her...and since he was one of the few family members she had left, she needed his help.  Since she was family, Jared agreed to help her out of the country.  The pair almost made it but were detained at the border by Garcia and his men. Harvey was willing to forgive and forget - in exchange for a favor.  Jared and Cheyenne could live if she gave back all the money...and Jared had to come and work for Garcia and his boss.

Valuing his life, Jared did what he had to to survive.  He began his work in New York as bouncer at Garcia's club.  He began to see things - stripping, prostitution, assault...and although he was appalled, he was powerless to stop it.  He began drinking and even experimented with drugs to quiet his guilt.  Soon he began moving up in the ranks - becoming a strip club manager for Garcia.  After years of lying to his mother, she finally find out that her son was nothing more than a mob thug who encouraged young girls to take off their clothes.  She died a few days later of a heart attack.  Devastated, Jared lashed out at the person who he blamed for his situation - Cheyenne.  After a blowout at the funeral, Cheyenne and he never spoke again.  Days later Jared was released from his duty to Garcia.  Garcia got great joy in realizing that Jared was basically a shell of the man he used to be.

After years of service, Jared was unsure of what he was to do with his life.  He met Callie Bronsan and thought perhaps she was his salvation.  They married after a short period of dating.  Jared tried to find work, refusing to consider practicing law after leading such an disgusting life.  He gravitated towards his old profession - and started his own strip club.  The drinking and the drugs soon followed.  Callie couldn't support him and soon left.

Since then he has lived a seedy life - managing a strip club in New York.  He hears of Cheyenne's death and realizes that the last of his family is gone...and that the last words he spoke to her were words of hate.  He comes to Port Charles to bury his cousin.  Something compels him to stay and he ends up opening up the Paradise Lounge.

Jared was quickly entranced with Tasha Campbell.  At first their relationship was just based on sex but soon feelings came into the mix.  She admitted she loved him...and he couldn't say it back.  The words finally came tumbling out, but only moments before Jared succumbed to a bullet wound at the Black and White Ball.
