Vaughn is the twin brother of the devious and sadistic Marcus Hamilton a.k.a. Vincent Caine. Unlike his brother, Vaughn kept his birth name, Vaughn Hamilton. Growing up with Vince wasn't the easiest, even thought they were the same age, Vaughn always felt like he was the older brother. Getting Vince out of trouble and covering for his brother became his ultimate pass time. Vaughn couldn't help but feel sorry for his brother because all he wanted was attention. Their parents never really paid much attention to Vince, always praising Vaughn and his accomplishments, ignoring Vince and berating him for his failures. All his life, Vaughn had sympathy for his brother...until he ended up in jail.
After Vince was locked up, Vaughn figured it was a good time to get out of the duty of being his brother's protector and start his own life. Packing up and moving to Italy, he started up his own internet company, making millions off of it. Vaughn never really had a love life, he just threw himself into his business. There had been times when he thought about Vince but could never bring himself to go see him, afraid that his brother would suck him into the "my brother's keeper" world.. However, now that Helena Cassadine has contacted him about Vince's recent antics in the town of Port Charles, Vaughn can't help but wonder what kind of mess his brother has gotten himself into this time...and just how far of a whole will he dig will he dig for himself before Vaughn has to show up and dig him out?
