Shawn grew up in a family of doctors. Both of his parents are doctors, as well as his grandfather on his father’s side of the family. It was always assumed that Shawn would follow his parents’ footsteps and go into medicine. However, Shawn just was not interested in medicine. Instead, he would go from crazy scheme to crazy scheme and make money that way. Shawn always wanted to own his own bar and just live a carefree life. When he dropped out of medical school, his family practically disowned him because he was, to them, a ‘disappointment’. Shawn had moved from town to town ever since, performing random odd jobs. His craziest job was dressing up as a giant fountain drink for the Coca-Cola company. Shawn is good at ‘faking it’ and can basically interview for any job and pretend to have the skills and confidence to get the position. The problem is actually keeping the job that he gets hired for. As Shawn waits for a canceled flight from New York to California to get rescheduled, he decides to explore NY. He ends up in Port Charles and notices that Jake’s Bar is hiring. Having bartended part-time in college, Shawn talks with Coleman, has an informal interview and gets hired right on the spot.
