Santo is a South American business man specializing in commodities - specifically coffee and sugar. He has built himself a profitable empire on the backs of the laborers who work in his fields - often paying them next to nothing. He has no guilt associated with this and instead enjoys the wealth he has pulled amassed.
He is a self professed womanizer, and has only been married once with disastrous results. He never truly loved his wife, only what she represented. He cheated on her numerous times but did promise to mend his ways when she became pregnant. He was successful for awhile only because he loved his daughter dearly. As Belle grew older, he slipped back into his old ways much to the detriment of his wife's mental health. After her suicide attempt, he had her placed in care and then divorced her.
Afraid that his lifestyle would affect his daughter the same way, Santo sent her to live with her aunt Eva, believing that the woman would care for her. He began to realize just how much Eva only cared for money when she began to demand huge amounts of cash for Belle's care. He has recently gotten word that Eva's relationship with a Greek shipping owner has caused her to deposit his daughter in Port Charles with her cousins. He is coming to check on his princess and decides to do a little business while in the port city.
