Michael spent most of his life not knowing that his biological father was AJ Quartermaine and instead believed he was the child of Sonny and Carly Corinthos. He found out the truth when he was kidnapped by Junior Quartermaine, AJ's alternate personality. Since that day, he's been curious about this whole other side of his family that he never knew about. That's not to say he loves his mom and dad (Sonny) any less. They raised him and were there for him when he needed them and he loves them still, he's just curious and wants to know more. Though his mom has forbidden him to get to know the Quartermaines, he doesn't see why he shouldn't be allowed to. They make up half of his DNA and he believes he should get to know them. Sonny and Carly will still be his mom and dad, that will never change and he wouldn't want it to. He just wants to get to know them. There's no harm in that. No matter how much he's tried to talk his mom into letting him do what he wants, he's never gotten her to budge. If she doesn't give in soon, he may have to go behind her back to get his way.
