Marcus was the principal at Clear Valley High in San Diego, California about a year and a half ago. He was happily married and has a son, Chase, who attended Clear Valley as well. Marcus was cool with the students, everyone loved him. However, his marriage ended abruptly and he resigned from being the principal of the school without any given reason, just that he wanted to change careers. Chase dealt with the divorce by acting out and got even worse when his mother moved away from San Diego to New Mexico. Soon after, Marcus met Angela Clarkson, a music teacher at another high school who was married and he began spending time with her. Angela was having some problems in her own marriage and the two began having an emotional affair which turned physical, ending Angela's marriage once and for all.
Marcus and Angela ended up getting married eight months ago, to the dislike of their children, Chase and Lori, however Chase is dealing with the situation better than Lori. Lori blames Marcus for breaking up her parents' marriage while Chase has come to see Angela as surrogate mother since his mother has stopped contacting him some time ago. When an offer to be principal of Port Charles High School comes up, Marcus decides to get out of California and takes his new family to Port Charles for a fresh start, hoping to leave the secrets of the past behind.
