Julian Winthrop
Player: Mandy Relationships: Interested in Anita Vanderbilt The Winthrops have always had a long standing relationship with the Cassadines dating back generations. The family does not have the royal blood of the Cassadines but they are a regal family none the less. It was no surprise when Julian and Stavros struck up a friendship when they were young boys. The two were very much alike - arrogant, cunning and cruel when necessary. Growing up they were more like brothers than Stavros and Stefan (who everyone knew hated one another). Julian proved to be much more level headed to Stavros' heated moments of rage and often served as the perfect person to bring Stavros back to earth. He became somewhat of an advisor to the Cassadine Prince, and took his position very seriously, developing his own hatred for Stefan and Alexis. However, Stavros wasn't about to share every aspect of his life with his friend - like the fact that he was secretly romancing Julian's younger sister, Isabella. The entire affair occurred in secret between the two. Julian only found out when Isabella announced her pregnancy. She became pregnant around the same time Laura was brought to the island to be wife of the Cassadine prince. Julian couldn't help but be angry with Stavros who tossed Isabella aside for the innocent appeal of Laura. But he was loyal to his friend and agreed to hide the pregnancy - anyone who inquired was told that Isabella had made the mistake of sleeping with one of her boarding school mates who abandoned her once she announced her pregnancy. With Stavros married to Laura and deny his connection to Isabella, she became very distraught and the pregnancy weakened her considerably. She died giving birth to a boy - named Roman Winthrop. Julian immediately took him in. Stavros made visits to see his son but was caught up with the excitement of the upcoming birth of his legitimate heir - Nikolas. So, with the help of nannies, Julian became the parental figure in Roman's life. He instilled the same values he and Stavros held dear. When he heard of Stavros' death, he made it his mission to keep his friend's memory alive in the young boy. He told Roman of his father and made sure Roman knew his veins carried royal blood even if he could never capitalize on it. Now Julian has caught wind of the fact that Nikolas is not the child of Stavros. As the eldest son of the eldest son, Roman now stands a chance at claiming the title of the true Cassadine Prince. And Julian will stop at nothing to make sure his nephew claims his rightful place. [Back]
