Johnny grew up in the mob lifestyle. His father, Anthony Zacchara, wanted Johnny to head the family business in when he got older but Johnny didn't want anything to do with the business. His older sister Claudia, who had a different mother, went to live in Europe so he never really got close to her. Growing up, it was just Johnny, his mother Maria, and his father who grew more and more unstable as time went on. One day in a fit of insanity, Anthony shot and killed Johnny's mother in front of him. This drove Johnny to eventually start acting reckless and doing crazy things. When his father finally snapped mentality and had a breakdown, Johnny had him committed and was force to take the reigns as head of the Zacchara organization. Upon learning that their father was in an asylum, Claudia returned from Milan and began building a relationship with her brother while helping him run the Zacchara organization
