Jamie never got the chance to know his father. He is the only son of Olivia Falconeri and Anthony Zacchara. He has always asked his mother just who fathered him, but the answer is always the same: "You don't need to know who your father is, James Dante. Just know that he was a very bad man that hurt a lot of people." His own grandparents would never share with Jamie the secret of who his father was.
As Jamie got older, Olivia realized that her son was beginning to get into too many fights due to the constant teasing over the fact that he didn't have a father. She enlisted the help of her aunt and uncle (Emilio and Sicily Falconeri - Kate Howard's parents) to get Jamie into the prestigious Winston School. Surely the school could straighten the boy out so that he wouldn't turn out like Anthony. As far as the Falconeri family was concerned, the Zacchara's were just as bad as Kate's former boyfriend Sonny Corinthos was becoming. It would've broken the family completely if it's youngest member were to become just like his father.
Thankfully, the Winston School was able to straighten Jamie out and get through to him. The boy instantly took to the school and studied very hard. Immediately after his graduation, Jamie had no clue as to what he wanted to do with his life. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. This showed jsut how much Jamie had grown as a person and by doing this, he figured that he'd have plenty of time to figure out what he wanted to do. It would also give him a way to pay for college without having to depend on his aunt and uncle for anything else. He knew for sure that he didn't want to go into business like his uncle Emilio - even though it was a very lucrative idea with a job waiting for him after college - he didn't want to have to reinvent himself to make it in the world like his cousin Connie aka Kate Howard, nor did he want to work on cars like his mom in his uncle Vito's shop. Whatever he chose to do, Jamie knew that he'd have to make a go at it on his own.
After ten years in the military and being stationed all over the world, Jamie figured that he'd done all that he could for his country. He got an honorable discharge and decided to start over in Port Charles, New York. He'd learned that his cousin Connie was now living in the city. Maybe he'd look her up one day. Until he could find himself an apartment, Jamie got a room above Kelly's diner. Without notifying anyone in the family, he also enrolled in classes at Port Charles University. Might as well put that GI Bill to good use and get his core credits out of the way while he was at it. He doesn't realize just how close he is to the side of his family that he doesn't know, or know just how dangerous they can be. In what little spare time Jamie has, he goes down to the local shooting range to fire off a couple of clips. Not only does he see it as a good stress relief, but it helps to keep him sharp.
