He was born to Cesar Daniel Faison to two of the underworld's most dangerous elements - master manipulator Cesar Faison and deadly shot Natalia Samsonov. His earliest memories involve his mother begging his father not to leave her alone again. It didn't take him long to catch onto the fact that his mother was a convenient warm bed for him. He knew that Natalia was in love with Cesar - it was plain to see. He watched his mother beg, plead and try her best to hold on to Faison and even as a small child he knew was beneath her.
When he was five, he realized his mother was truly happy again. He never knew it but she had considered him old enough to finally return to a more active stance by Faison's side. That never came to be because his father showed up one night injured and cradling a baby in his arms. Daniel sat on the top of the stairs and listened to his father order, plead and finally seduce Natalia into talking baby Colin in. He now had a baby brother. It made growing up a little easier - having someone to play with and then later on push around. Their relationship was never one of true admiration. He knew they were not truly brothers (despite his mother trying to convince him otherwise) and Colin was being filled with hate for Robert Scorpio by Faison.
By the time he was old enough to strike out on his own, he had decided one thing - he didn't much care for his father. In his eyes he had weakened his mother. He hated that he carried his name. He started to go by his middle name - Daniel and his mother's maiden name - Samsonov. Given his upbringing there was only one career path from him to take. He started to work for a Russian based criminal organization, taking him back to the territory of his grandfather. He became very good at what he did and has taken a definite turn from his father's methods. He believes his father enjoys complicating things - why plan an ultimately complicated scheme when a bullet to the head will work just as well? He has worked with his father on occasion but usually as a middle man for some sort of deal. The relationship between them is rather cool and he definitely has taken his mother's side, and does what he can to make sure she is happy.
Daniel is a charming man, even to those who know what he does. He has inherited his father's ability to manipulate people - the only good thing he believes he received from Faison. However, given his upbringing and his warped view on relationships, Daniel may be more like Cesar Faison then he is willing to admit.
