In the Spotlight

Every once and awhile something happens...a scene, a storyline, a character, a couple...just seems to stand out among the rest.  The writers catch your attention and you are enthralled, and you think "Damn, they deserve some recognition for that!" Well, here be the spot! If you think someone deserves some props email Mandy telling who and why!

CURRENTLY IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

A Double Wedding

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: March 21st, 2009

GHC has had it share of dramatic moments - explosions, shoot outs, acts of Mother Nature...but the really romantic ones are rarely highlighted.  This month's spotlight goes to one such moment: the marriage of Frisco Jones to Bobbie Spencer...and at the same time of Lucas Jones to Guy Tucker.  The mother and son duo both decided that there was no time like the present and threw an impromptu wedding in the hospital chapel with friends and family attending.

PAST SPOTLIGHTS:

Allyson is found alive!

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: February 15, 2009

Allyson arrived in Port Charles years ago, a friend to Carly and quickly established connections across canvas.  Her disappearance caused many to frantically search...with no avail.  Fearing that she was dead, they have moved on.  But they are in for the shock of their lives because the FBI recently raided a slave ring and found Allyson alive.  She has been asked to return to Port Charles to finger the Ghost.  How long before her friends discover that she is alive?  It is a great to see a character with great history return to town! Welcome back, Allyson!

The Cassadine Sister reunion turns nasty!

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: February 15, 2009

When Eden arrived in town years ago she knew that she had already lost a sister - Kristina and was determined to get to now her remaining siblings.  Over the years Alexis and Eden have grown closer and the news that Kristina was alive should have been a joyous event.  But it quickly turned sour when it was discovered that Luis Alcazar had played a part in Kristina's 'death' and had even impregnated Kristina.  Not willing to jump to conclusions after Alexis branded Luis a rapist, Alexis rebuked her sister claiming that she was more an Alcazar than a Cassadine and pointing out that she was the only one who was going to have an "Alcazar spawn" due to Kristina's decision to abort her baby.  All three sisters were left hurting and fractured apart.

Tierney's Baby is born early!

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: February 15, 2009

Tierney came to Port Charles to try and hide from her past - which involved the mob world.  Why?  Because she was about to become a mother.  Tierney wanted to protect her child, and even tried to worm her way out of Luis' blackmail.  In the end, her child came earlier but not due to mob violence. Injured in the explosion that occurred at the Black and White Ball, Tierney went into premature labor and gave birth to a seemingly healthy baby girl.

The Black and White Ball

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: January 25, 2009

The Black and White Ball was another cast wide storyline on the part of the writers of GHC! I think a big kudos needs to go out to everyone involved.  What started as a fun night turned into a nightmare as gunmen took over.  It was full of romance - Penny and Diego, Ken and Marina both made love for the first time.  It was full of revelations: Kristina and Stavros are alive, Robert is Melody's father...and it showcased many characters across the canvas.  Ending with a bang (literally), the events of the Black and White Ball are going to help shape the storylines to come!

Trapped between a rock and a hard place

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: December 31st, 2008

Gabriella Giovanni is a sweet and kind hearted woman.  She is loyal to her brother and smitten with Johnny Zacchara…and both men seem to think the world of her.  She would seem to have it all – if it weren’t for her father.  Mob lord Gustavo seems to want to run every aspect of her life.  And it is hard not to let him – because if he doesn’t get his way he tends to get violent.  Gabriella is struggling right now…she wants to be with Johnny, she wants to be in control of her life but at the same time she knows that her father will harm people if she doesn’t do what he says.  She is truly trapped.

Wade sees that Lucas is happy

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: November 9th, 2008

It wasn't that long ago that Wade was caught between Kyan and Lucas.  In the end he made the decision to be with Kyan and the two were happy for awhile.  But cracks have started to appear in the once solid relationship.  At the Black and White Ball, Wade found himself face to face with his old lover, Lucas.  He confessed to Lucas that he sometimes wished that he had stayed with him.  Lucas explained that he was happy with Guy, causing Wade to ponder out loud if he deserved to be miserable while Lucas was happy...if only as a sort of cosmic revenge for how Wade had treated Lucas.  Lucas assured him that he was wrong but Wade was already wallowing in self pity and seeing Lucas happy only served to send him further down the hole.

Stavros Cassadine is alive

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: October 18th, 2008

The Cassadines are vital to GHC's history - one of it's core families so it's no surprise that it's Prince, the dastardly Stavros survived death once again.  He has kept a low profile so far, choosing to watch from afar.  He seems determined to take back the reigns of his family from what he deems his bumbling brother and inept nephew.  With the Black and White Ball upon us, Stavros is using the chance to walk amongst his subjects and perhaps wreak a little havoc.

The Final Straw!

Nominated by: Mandy&Chris  Date: October 18th, 2008

Carlos and Marisol were a marriage of convenience- designed to bring together two Mexican mob factions.  But for over two decades the pair have stayed together raising children Javier and Katia.  They have worked well together even though both strayed from their martial vows.  However, with Marisol's pregnancy their relationship seemed to be heading towards an end.  There was a glimmer of hope when Nate was kidnapped...Marisol seemed to turn to Carlos, knowing that he could help her.  Unfortunately Carlos used that moment to reveal that he had fathered the now adult Calista.  Marisol was furious that he would tell her that when she was so obviously upset over her missing son.  She let Carlos know that it was over for good.  His selfishness had finally become too much for her! Whether or not the pair could still be friends after all this remains to be seen!

TnT explode!

Nominated by: Kelly&Chris  Date: August 31st, 2008

It was a long time the making.  The moment Tea Delgado landed in Port Charles with Todd's daughter, readers knew that one day Todd would find out and there would be hell to pay.  In the end, he found out after Elena nearly died because of her mother's connection to the Alcazar family.  In the church chapel, Todd demanded to know why the woman he felt he could trust did what she did.  Tea tried her best to explain pointing out that Todd had faked Jack's death and she was afraid that if she stepped wrong he would have done something similar with Elena.  Todd fought back though telling her that she was the one woman he had often felt understood him despite his flaws and now that was destroyed.  It was clear that the two were gearing up for a battle - and that this heated argument was only the beginning!

They all fall down...

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: August 7th, 2008

The mob war literally exploded with Luis, Lorenzo, Carlos and Sonny's refusal to hand over their territory to Gustavo.  Proving that he is a cunning villain and acting as if he knew they would turn him down, Gustavo turned the night into living hell when he struck each of the mob factions individually.  As Leticia cared for her young charge, Morgan, she was viciously strangled in Sonny's penthouse.  Marisol awoke with a start in her hospital bed and found that her fears were valid when she discovered a dead nurse and her son missing from the nursery.  And the sky literally lit up when Tea Delgado's suite at the Metrocourt exploded...trapping Sage and Elena inside.  Within minutes, Gustavo did a hell of a lot of damage and set off a chain reaction that won't soon be forgotten in Port Charles.

A Game of Life and Death

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: August 7th, 2008

The moment Gustavo Giovanni stepped onto canvas, everyone knew he was trouble.  He quickly set the tone by nearly crushing a bird with his bare hands in front of Sage but his love of games was revealed when he took Elizabeth and Jason hostage.  In a chilling series of scenes, he forced Elizabeth to play a card game with the winner determining the fate of Jason.  Kudos to Elizabeth for keeping her calm and doing her best in the game of chance.  In the end, she was victorious and saved Jason's life...but it made for some very tense moments to this reader!

Catalina leaves her mark!

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: May 24th, 2008

Catalina Alcazar arrived in Port Charles just in time to celebrate her brother's marriage to Eden Cassadine...which she did by shooting barbs at the bride! Catalina soon revealed her take no prisoners attitude, telling everyone how she felt about her brother marrying the sister of the woman who had tried to kill Luis.  She also quickly renewed an old rivalry with Ric Lansing, nearly provoking him into assaulting her.  Catalina definitely has proven that she is tough as nails and that she will do anything to protect her family, including beating down Hera Jackson for insulting her niece.  Catalina has quickly made herself one of GHC's memorable characters.

Introducing Baby Nathaniel Ross

Nominated by: Kelly   Date: May 1st, 2008

Devin and Marisol's one night of passion had some serious consequences.  Devin lost his relationship with the woman he loves, Skye.  And Marisol found herself pregnant despite just learning she was going to be a grandmother! Devin and Marisol could not see eye to eye concerning their unborn child.  Devin was worried that Marisol's mob connections would place the baby in the line of fire and Marisol refused to let him take the baby.  In the end, the pair came together when she went into labor.  Nathaniel John Ross was born on the eve of a mob war and the parents swore that they would do anything to protect him from any dangers the world would throw at them.

The Tess Factor

Nominated by: Mandy   Date: April 4th, 2008

Jessica came to Port Charles to follow the man that had wronged her - Antonio Vega, the man she nearly married until he slept with her aunt Tia.  Soon after arriving to Port Charles, she began to have weird blackouts.  Enter Tess - an alternate personality who makes no bones about taking what she wants.  And she certainly did just that the night of Lorenzo and Eden's wedding reception.  Not only did she crash the party and tell off Nikolas Cassadine, she snagged Ric Lansing for a night of passionate sex.  What makes this story even more intriguing is that Jessica has woken up wondering what the hell just happened to her!

Cleo is not Sonny's daughter

Nominated by: Mandy  Date: March 15, 2008

This story was a long time coming.  Cleo's portrayer had left nearly two years ago and the character languished - often mentioned.  It was decided that she would be written out with a bang and set off a mystery.  The sweet woman who had came to Port Charles looking for her father turned out to be a lie as it was discovered that she was a con artist, who prayed on Sonny for his money.  Sonny would have never found out if it hadn't been for the virus.  Cleo fell sick and Sonny discovered that their blood types did not match.  After a paternity test, he learned the truth and confronted Cleo on it.  At first, she tried to claim otherwise but soon had to admit that she was not a Corinthos.  Sonny wanted her to leave town immediately and never show her face again - giving her a reprieve for her infant son.  He wanted to have the last laugh - telling her that he had set up an account loaded with money but that only baby Angel could have it when he turned 25! But it was Cleo who got the last laugh when she admitted that she had gotten the idea to pretend to be his daughter by looking into records and discovering that he did indeed father a child when he was a teenager.  Sonny was left with a file and a burning need to find his real daughter!

Carly and Chloe can't see eye to eye

Nominated by: Mandy   Posted on: February 11, 2008

Chloe is not your typical teen - she just recently found her parents: Jasper Jacks and Carly Corinthos.  She has been through a lot since coming to Port Charles, the most horrific of them being raped by Vincent.  Her recovery has been slow but people like Andy and Milo have been a great help.  Chloe and Milo have been especially close leading to Carly being very leery due to Milo's age and line of work.  She and Chloe finally had it out about Milo and during the argument Chloe threw Carly's relationship with Sonny in her face.  Carly tried her best to explain the difference between her relationship with Sonny and what was building between Chloe and Milo but her daughter just wouldn't listen.  She told her mother she was moving in with father Jax and that she intended to raise her children a hell of lot better than Carly did!

Lizzy and Connie played these intense scenes perfectly! Mother and daughter are definitely at an empass and I can't wait to see where they are headed!
