INDUSTRIALISATION AND
WATER AVAILABILITY
Introduction
This lesson will
comprise the writing of articles on the impact of industrialization on
water availability and quality and its effects on the economy by browsing
for information from the internet. Before the lesson, the student should
have an idea of industrialist ion and potable water. The lesson will be
relevant to the project if students become informed about the impact of
industrial activities on quantity and quality of water and the resultant
effects on the economy. In addition to this, the students will be able
to acquire adequate skills in writing good and interesting articles, how
to search for information from the Internet, how to present their work
by using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Hence they will be obtaining insight
into the subject area and the use of technology in learning.

Instructional
Activities (teacher component)
I will book the computer lab in
advance for students' use. The students will be grouped into manageable
groups and tutored on how to search for exact information using the right
key words or phrases for search. Search engines like www.google.com, altavista.com
and www.yahoo.com will be introduced to students to use for search. The
teacher will help students to download material from the Internet and to
save information gathered unto floppies for usage offline. I will then
help the students to write outlines and articles on industrializations
and water availability and its effects on the economy. After this, i
will introduce the students to PowerPoint and help them to present their
work in PowerPoint.
Learning Activities
(student component)
Students will search for information
on industrialization and its effect on water availability using the Internet.
They will gather information, save information on floppies, design outlines
and write articles on industrialization and its effect on water availability
and on the economy. They will also present the outline of their articles
in PowerPoint.
Instructional Strategies
The lesson took 90 minutes. I will
use 10 minutes to introduce and explain lesson to them. The teacher will
divide a class of 28 into 4 main groups (1, 2, 3, and 4). Teacher will
ensure that the necessary information is downloaded from the Internet.
I will then make sure that students follow instructions to the latter and
also participate in the project by making contributions.
Project Assessment
To end the lesson, each group (1, 2,
3, and 4) will present their work for others to see with the help of PowerPoint.
Their presentations will be assessed for good and clear presentation. Each
group will then comment on their colleagues' group work.

Dictionaries and Tutorial materials
on instructions and on the steps of the lesson were provided for the students'
use. Copies will be saved on the available computers in a special folder
created purposely for this project.
