CONSERVING WATER IN THE HOME

Introduction

Water, as is said, is Life.Without water Man cannot survive. However, Man’s activities, threaten this indispensable commodity. These activities have resulted in the pollution of our water bodies, dwindling of the size of our rivers and streams, drying up of our rivers and streams and the prevalence of water-borne diseases. In Ghana, access to safe drinking water (treated water) is quite a problem especially among the rural folk, who have to rely on rivers and streams for water.Treated water is expensive forming a substantial percentage of the government’s expenditure. In the home, payment for water forms a sizeable part of the family’s expenditure. At certain periods, especially, during the dry season, the taps occasionally do not run, causing inconvenience in the home. This project therefore seeks to focus on sensitizing students on the need to conserve water in the home. The culmination of this project on creating awareness among all and sundry especially the students on the importance of managing our water resources and the need to conserve water since Water is Life will be a newsletter written by students.English students will contribute articles and stories on conservation of water with special reference to the home. This lesson will therefore focus on conserving water in the home.
