World Links Curriculum and
Technology Integration E-Learning Project Lessons
POLYMERISATION OF ETHENE GAS
Introduction
In this Era of technological provision of information at our door steps, it is only wise to exploit its benefits to the maximum. Many schools in Africa depend mainly on test books which are either not enough or not up to date, whilst the internet an unlimited academic resource in all fields is untapped. The main aim of this lesson is to integrate technology into the academic curriculum and expose my students to another source of information and help them develop a different attitude towards teaching and learning so that in the end they will be more confident to take any exams and better prepared to take their place in the Global village that world is being made daily.
Subject
and Grade level:
Chemistry, Senior Secondary Form Three
Lesson
Goals
- For students to learn how to use the internet to gain knowledge in chemistry
- To expose chemistry student to a broader source of knowledge than the Test Book
- For students to use technology to present their knowledge
Content
Objectives
- For students to use technology to present their knowledge
- For students to know the health hazards such as,Cancer and Hydrogen Cyanide poisoning, associated with the production, uses and the burning of waste polythene and poisonous emissions from black and coloured polythene
- To look for Anti –polythene policies from countries and non-governmental organizations
Performance
Objectives
- Searching for relevant information on polythene production and pollution
- Write and print out all relevant information on polythene hazards from the internet
- Create slides in power point to presentation of work
Technology
Objectives
- To gain more from the use of the internet
- To learn presentation techniques using power point.
- To gain knowledge in the use of Microsoft word,Microsoft publisher and the printer
- To expose students to a greater source academic information
Instructional
Activities (teacher
component)
.Teacher will request for the computer lab in advance for students’ use for at least two continues periods.
.Students will be put into groups and taught how to search for exact information using Key words , notations and search engines such as GOOGLE and YAHOO
.Teacher will print out instructions and distribute them to groups and also explain in detail what should be done.
.Student will be given Diskettes to save any information for future use or printing
.Teacher will move from one group to another during students’ activities to explain to student when necessary.
Learning
Activities
(student component)
Students will search for information on polythene and polythene pollution using internet Search Engines and the instructions printed out to them by teacher
Students will save all information on a diskettes for use in power point and also print out some
Instructional
Strategies
Teacher will divide students into groups of two each to a computer
Teacher will invite the computer technician to the lab in case there is connectivity problems and also to assist slow learning students Teacher will introduce the whole lesson after distributing instructional hand outs to the students
Teacher will also make sure that the school’s internet providers are contacted so that connectivity is not interrupted..
Project
Assessment
Students will be assessed by the way they present their findings and a quiz
