IT Learning Centre: Courses
Our IT Learning Centre (ITLC) includes over 200 classroom-based and over 1000 online courses to help you in your studies, research, administration and future career. We also train staff on specialist University systems and software. The programme is open to all staff, academics and students at the University.
The ITLC online course booking system lists all classroom-based courses and a selection of the online courses we deliver through lynda.com. Our lunchtime sessions, online resources and some courses are free; there is a charge for other courses.
Types of course
Scheduled courses
Our classroom-based scheduled courses include common office tools, programming, multimedia, Nexus, WebLearn and more. Our most popular courses include:
- Spreadsheet and database design courses
- Courses on using reference management tools
- Graphic design sessions covering the use of InDesign and Photoshop and their free and open-source equivalents
We offer a range of ways to learn core Microsoft Office skills.
Scheduled courses are normally three-hour modules, morning or afternoon.
Self-paced online courses
All University members have free access to lynda.com, a huge library of online learning resources. We also offer self-service learning resources through the ITLC Portfolio of online course material.
Byte-size Courses
Our short lunch-time sessions cover closely focused topics or new technologies. Examples include our make:, do: and engage: series of talks that showcase the use of IT around the University. Byte-size courses last for one hour, from 12:30pm, and are usually free.
